Think you're getting very confused. Henderson and Fabinho(Wijnaldum played further forward) weren't protection for the centre backs, they were protection for the full backs who Klopp liked to play basically as wingers. The centre backs were often left isolated on the counter and luckily we had VVD to get us out of it.

It's a little different now under Slot or course and they get more protection as we now play a similar patient game to Arsenal although not quite as pragmatic.

I think Allison deserves equal or more credit than van dijk for getting you "out of it".

At least it seems we are in agreement that kash's claim that vvd has "no protection" this season is utter nonsense.

Saliba/Gabriel and it's not even close.

4 CBs and 2 DMs...not even Mourinho is that bad

I can only think of Tuchel (or was it Conte) at Chelsea with his back 5 and 2 DMs that could be worse, in the entire PL era.

With Odegaard out it has been 3 DMs
