Halloween 🎃 👻

As it’s that time of year again I wanted to know what you all consider to be your favourite and scariest horror movies (our season so far is one horror movie we can’t outrun the slasher tbf).

I introduced my GF to the Terrifier franchise today with the 3rd one and to say it’s gory is like saying Sean Dyche’s voice is a bit gruff. It’s genuinely the most facked up horror I’ve seen in a long time.

My all time favourites are the Romero Living Dead trilogy, the Fog, Ju-On the Grudge and American Werewolf in London to name but a few.

What do y’all like and what upcoming horrors are you most excited for? Heretic with Hugh Grant looks really good as does Nosferatu.

Maybe not the scariest, just my personal favourites.

1) Poltergeist
2) The Others
3) Drag me to Hell
4) The Exorcist
5) Scream
6) Zombie-land
7) A Nightmare on Elm Street
8) The Blair Witch Project
9) The Shining
10) Halloween

Poltergeist is usually my go to film for Halloween. Not hugely scary but a lot of fun.

Same, and it’s so relentless once it kicks in!

24 hours in and no mention of:

psycho
rosemary's baby (the tenant for bonus points)
the innocents
nosferatu (the herzog version)
eyes without a face
the wicker man
suspiria (original)

don't think i'd necesarily see alien, dead ringers, don't look now as horrors, but it is a genre with a lot of "is it really horror?" films. hitchcock, with his curious sense of humour, saw psycho as a comedy.

oh, and both versions of candyman are really interesting and unusual.

Alien is absolutely horror, haunted house in space.

Alien 2 is action tho.

Two of the best films ever, with the sequel taking top spot

I enjoy a good horror but The Terrifier franchise has sacrificed all semblance of a plot for gratuitous gore. Having said that, I'll still probably watch the 3rd one.

As for personal favourites, I like the original Halloween, most of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and Trick r Treat. Plenty of other great horror movies but not specifically Halloween ones

There is certainly a bit more plot in Terrifier 3. More of the lore and sets up part 4 perfectly. It’s still gore > everything else but Sienna is a proper final girl and it’s building to something

Best creature effects in any horror ever

The Woman In Black (1989) deserves a mention here. It was on one Christmas Eve many years ago and traumatised many people of my generation who were kids at the time

I often find women creepier than men in horror films and this film is probably one of the main reasons why. There's just a deep malevolence that this woman carries that's hard for a man to pull off. And the ways in which she could harm you aren't immediately obvious, so it plays with your imagination.
