Jose as manager.
Fred & Amrabat in midfield.
A squad littered with PL flops and/or has beens.
Fully expect us to crumble.

@rosso, it's still a remarkable record, despite all the caveats.
It's more than 50 games in total, and you also played a lot of good teams in that time, from both sides of the Iron Curtain.
Madrid, by comparison, only went unbeaten at home until 1962.

I don't really make much of unbeaten records etc - ultimately it's about what you win trophy wise.
It's like Arsenal's invincibles - don't get me wrong, of course it was a strong team, but I genuinely don't rate that team that highly in comparison to some of Wenger's other squads, as well as other league winning teams generally.

It’s an impressive record, no doubt; I just meant to point out that it isn’t quite as remarkable as it might first seem, because the game was very, very different back then.
IIRC, Milan went something like 40 or 50 European home games undefeated, and the likes of Juve, Benfica and Ajax were losing home games exceedingly infrequently (once or twice each before the mid 80s or so?). And these were teams which were qualifying more frequently and so playing more European games than United over the same period.

Just counted up and it looks like Milan went 49 home games unbeaten and United 57. Juve also had a run of 46 games in which they lost only once. Real lost once in 35 games.
I’m assuming the bookies weren’t even offering odds on home wins in European fixtures in those days.

Wow that 2011 final defeat by Barca really destroyed Fergie. 3 wins in 9 home games in Europe between then and his retirement.
Then after he left we went on a 21 match unbeaten home run in Europe.

Yeah, so in perspective it was easier to have longer unbeaten home records in Europe, but despite that United's record was still pretty exceptional.

Of course it was. Better than all the other top teams quoted, Which therefore makes it special.

Because the memory of Munich was always prevalent in the stmosphere at Old Trafford with the staff and players involved and supporters in the ground on European nights under the lights (before the PL came along) which sadly, eventually died out.
