Any chance of a left back being back or we back to more setbacks

Could do with Malacia returning. I think many have given up on Shaw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Malacia is utter sh!te though.

I tend to agree. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that but he looked ordinary at best.

Malacia was average at best, but it would be nice to have another actual full back in the squad. And a left footed one at that - I really think it does help in the build up. Problem is he will probably come back a worse player than the one we last saw, after so long out.

Assuming Shaw's season is a write-off again (and given Mazraoui's game time needs to be managed a bit), I think once Yoro is back and up to speed we'll probably start seeing a bit more of Martinez at LB.

A top left back has to be a priority next summer.

Luke Shaw signed a new 4 year contract only last year.

And I think it will be priority area for Ashworth. I hope we don't regret missing out on Ferdi Kadıoğlu.

Isn't he a right footed jack all of trades type player? I'm sure he's a good player but I'm not sure he'd be hugely different to playing Dalot there.

He's a talented player with plenty of potential even for a 25 year old, is primarily a right footed LB. I'll be following his progress at Brighton with keen interest. The difference with Dalot is that while he can cover at LB, he's not as convincing in that role, being naturally a RB.

It would make sense to continue with Martinez at LB, especially in an inverted role. This was suggested by Diafol in a separate thread. If my memory serves me right ETH experimented with Amrabat in this position in a cup game last season at OT, allowing Utd to overload the midfield, which worked well. Given Martinez's excellent passing ability, he could enhance our build up play, offering more fluidity, stability and numbers to the midfield when required.
