What work needs to be done on our squad?

The million dollar question of course but with Ratcliffe basically coming out and saying our squad is shiiiiit itโ€™s clear that now for the first time since Ineos took over they have their own man in as head coach so will back him accordingly.

For me there are 4 positions that need sorting ..

Left (wing) Back - the easiest problem to diagnose
Out and our reliable goalscorer - we know who I want
Centre Mid to partner Ugarte
Right (wing) Back - Not sure if Maz can play that role but maybe someone like Hakimi would be gr8?

Who else?

I await the meltdown on here when Amorim starts Antony on a regular basis because he works hard and listens to instruction.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know you have a wee soft spot for Antony - I'm starting to think that Antony might turn into a player under Amorim, it'll be one of those weird outcomes from him coming here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest I can take him or leave him but I like to see an underdog win sometimes. He's been criticised from all angles but I'm convinced (unless it's the Mandela effect!) that when we played well in Erik's first season he was usually playing.

He had what I would say was a decent first season, but then like the entire squad really, was poor in the second season. I know the fee isn't his fault, but that's hung round his neck so heavily, and he's obviously not that good a player regardless.
I feel at best he can become a good squad player, but ultimately that's not what we paid for, so barring a miracle, hard to see him long-term remaining, but you would like to think there is a semi-decent player there.

Yes, the fee was ridiculous! If Amorim can get a 'Victor Moses' type of season from him or something until we get better that'd be something. If for no other reason than to get a decent fee.

Antony would be decent on a 5-a-side pitch but on an adult 11-a-side pitch, he shouldn't be playing professionally. He can't kick it far enough and can't run more than a couple of metres. I am not sure if he can see further than 5 metres away either. Other than that, he hasn't been that bad of a signing.

It might be worth trying him on the left.

I appreciate it's unlikely this will happen though.

Did he not score a few decent goals in his first season? I can't believe I'm almost defending him now .
I would love to know to this day why we agreed to pay such a large fee for him - I know ETH wanted him, but doubt he had anything to do with what was paid - I wonder if ETH thought, wow, I didn't want him that badly .
But he has been somewhat abandoned this season which does no good for him or getting a good fee for him. But he gets a fresh start under Amorim so fingers crossed. Maybe be the attacking role alongside the main striker could bring something out of him

If he sticks with the system he’s used (to incredible success) at Sporting, he’s probably going to want, more or less in order:

1. LWB/RWB
2. RWB/LWB
3. Right inside forward
4. Hard working, pacy, ball-carrying CM
5. Aerially dominant, strong central CB/rangy, pacier RCB (depending on how he sees De Ligt
6. Left inside forward/10 (depending on how he’s gonna use Bruno.

Antony playing under Amorim isn’t completely ridiculous, tbh.

In terms of his playing style and work rate, he’s more of an Amorim-type forward than Rashford or Garnacho.

I think Antony playing professional football is pretty ridiculous.
