Corners and free kicks

Why are we so crap at corners?
I am old enough to remember Bobby Collins, Giles, Bremner all could land it on a sixpence. Also Harte and more recently Strachan and Mcallister.
These days we offer no threat, too short, too high, too flat, no pressure around the keeper and sadly nobody who is much good at heading a ball.
However, when we face one ourselves we seem to be under immense pressure. These guys are supposed to be footballers yet cannot do the simple things. Why are they not coached on specifics like this. The chosen player should be spending hours every day until he can cross it to perfection.
Free kicks we are even worse. Obsessed with quick , short ones, often backwards even when in the opposition half and again as with corners we seem always under pressure when defending them. Again .surely better coaching is required.
Can you remember when we last scored direct from a free kick, the Gruev fluke apart, think it might have been Kalvin Phillips a few years back at Blackburn, before that probably Ross Mc Cormack.

Yeah good comments….in ancient times we had ‘big Jack’ we also had for a time probably the best header from a corner or free kick, Alan Peacock.
Jimmy Greenhoff started off as a wing half but was then converted to main striker…he could really jump and head a ball. Not forgetting John Charles, of course.
Mick Jones was very good as well…all these players a real threat with the ball in the air.

I think these days players do the absolute minimum required and are off on the golf course doing social media podcasts or sh4gging reality dolly birds....lucky bleeders!!! but the days you speak of I genuinely believe footballers were more dedicated and loved the game far more than players do today who see it as a business and have an entourage of accountants, managers, brand specialists etc.

Your Eddie Grays, George Best, Kevin Keegan and even more recently David Beckham would spend hours during and after training honing their craft but our lot today haven't as you say got the skills to put it on a sixpence or smash it in Lorimer style from outside the box or at least very rarely are able to so yes I agree practise makes perfect and more time spent taking set pieces and shooting on sight from 20 yards is definitely required at Leeds because we're utter gash in that department compared to other sides.

Of course George Best never went near a dolly bird, god forbid.

I can see a repeat of last season - we'll finish outside the autos and lose playoff !

Watford leading. Almost a third of the season gone and instead of us pullling away as predicted by many, the top 6 are closing in around us. But in Farke we trust. Apparently.
