Proper football is back, the premier league returns this weekend 🥳. We have few injuries, not massive but "nearly recovered" state and with R Madrid and City the next two after Saints I personally think there will be a few changes here; esp considering the S American players travelling so far.
I think the likes of(listed below) WONT start:
Allison
VVD
Robertson
TAA
Macallister
Diaz
Jota
Elliott
Chiesa
Gravenberch
Injured, recovering or travel.issues...I can see that list either some on the bench or left out, why risk anything when another few days may make all the difference(?).
That leaves this team for me:
....................Kelleher...........
Bradley..Konate..Quansah..Kostas
............Endo......Jones.........
....................Szob...............
Salah............Nunez........Gakpo
Nunez didn't play the full match and should ok, its time for Endo to step in and that team is still quality with the likes of Salah, Szob, Konate, Gakpo, Kelleher, Nunez and Bradley arguably 1st teamers!
As I said, I'd rest a few to recover properly and ready for Madrid AND city...which btw welcome back Stones, KDB and a few others...
YNWA
Southampton Vs Liverpool pre amble.

No way. This game albeit much less glamorous is far more important than the Madrid one in my opinion.
Sunday game means the players that travelled have had longer to recover. I’d go as strong as possible.

I think player injury caution is bigger than anything tbh, id rather rest and recover the players ready for the remaining season than risk in 1 game where they then are out for months....injures kill teams, look at what happened to us before....let's learn from it!
Why risk when you dont need to....

Yeah agree with Neo although I think Slot's decision will be somewhere between the two, there will be a few changes but not quite as drastic as the OP.

The Madrid game is meaningless, a win won't knock them out of the competition so no reason to go full strength.

It's not meaningless at all!! How can you say that?? We need a win to keep on making sure we finish in the top set of teams for progression in CL.
Not only that...but it's also about maintaining confidence and winning games...keep.it going. It most certainly is NOT meaningless!!

A win and a draw in the last 4 games will all but guarantee being in the last eight. The PL game is the more important game.

Yep fully agree due to our excellent start in the CL it makes the RM game less priority. Play the big guns on Sunday and then against City.

Finishing higher in the CL league affects the draw so it's also best to finish as high as possible within the top eight.

Does it though? From 9th to 24th yes as top 8 will play bottom 8. However how does the draw work when the 8 teams who win the playoffs then get drawn against the teams who qualified top 8? I'd imagine it's just a normal draw by computer surely?

I've just had a quick check and it's a little complicated but in the knockout rounds it looks as though they're split into seeded pairs, and the teams who finish 9th/10th play 23rd/24th, 11th/12th play 21st/22nd etc and so 15th/16th play 17th/18th. The teams who finish 1st/2nd play the winners of 15th/16th and 17th/18th, so you're guaranteed to play a team who finished middle of that section, rather than have the possibility of playing either a team who finished 9th or a team who finished 24th. If that makes sense.
Annex B in here might explain it better
