Preston North End 1 - 1 Derby County

PRESTON NORTH END v DERBY COUNTY Championship #16

Saturday 23rd November 2024, 1500, Deepdale, Preston

International break over, back to the bread and margarine of the league with game no. 16.

Tickets are still available for the fixture but looking at the weather, I think I will be better off staying in next to the fire, with a wee Irish in hand watching Rams TV and listening to RD.

A disappointing draw against Plymouth when they were there for the taking again demonstrates the lack of power in that front third. A game which we dominated and were thwarted by a horrible deflection.

Preston are in 20th place but really this means nothing as any team can beat any team in this league (apart from us)

Derby are expected to take about 3000 to Preston on Saturday where Vidal will be playing his usual game of 'Avoid Scouse' - to which he rarely wins.

And the good news is that Cash should be back on Saturday, raring to go with another 5 bookings to get through before he gets suspended again.

Team: Zetterström (GK), Jackson, Nelson, Cashin (C), Phillips, Forsyth, Thompson, Osborn, Adams, Brown, Yates

Subs: Vickers, Wilson, Bradley, Barkhuizen, Collins, Mendez-Laing, Goudmijn, Harness, Blackett-Taylor

For those in doubt about the quality of the game yesterday, watch the highlights. Yes, they were genuinely the best bits.

Not really selling it to me Vidal.

I don’t think there is much of a conspiracy around CBT not featuring lately. It seems as though Warne is playing it a bit safe with selection from the start and with his subs. In the Plymouth game he said he was very close to bringing on CBT but decided to put Osborn wide instead where to be fair he played well. Yesterday he could have been more adventurous but played NML centrally rather than going for it with 2 wingers for the last 15 minutes.

Maybe he is right. We have been eking out the away points recently after getting nothing earlier in the season. It’s not great to watch but getting a toehold in this division is vital.

As both goals were shown with about 90 seconds (of the approx 7 minute reel), thats as far as, I got.

City were woeful. Why they've given Pep 2 more years is anyone's guess.
Forest weren't much better.
You missed a treat.

Mind boggling why a manager with 12 league titles across European leagues is rewarded with a 2 year extension. Absolutely crazy 😉

Chicago's point 5 - it is a concern. CBT was playing well and got hooked after 2 games and hasn't had a look in the side after that. Either it's an attitude thing that they're not liking following on from last season or he has an injury and protecting him.

Feels very much like a clash of personalities based on comments last season.

Shelf life Desi. He looks bored. The team, in spite of injuries, is disjointed. 5 in a row shouldn't happen at his level.

Well gives him a few more years of living in luxury without the need to work.

Think the Swansea game might be attritional. They are a possession-based team so it might be like the Hull game where we let them have the ball and try to catch them out. We are so bad when we have the ball at the moment that maybe it isn’t the worst tactic. Hopefully they will be mentally and physically exhausted after their crazy game against Leeds today and we will grind it out.

Substance ( and results) over style for all sensible fans no doubt. Made the error of reading through the toxic reviews on Twitter demanding the immediate removal of PW. I really can't stand these fans.

I'm hoping another 10/11 wins will allow us to consolidate our position in this division. A case of getting those wins in whatever manner. After that it's a case of moving on some of the veterans and bringing in fresh blood and more creativity.

I'm optimistic about staying up and I think next season PW will be driven out of the club. We'll be a similar brand of style as we take small steps to become a mainstay in the Championship and the fans just won't tolerate it. PW's contract comes to an end so the severance package won't be outside our budget.

Then the upheaval begins again, get rid of players no longer wanted to fit the new managers style.

Who knows? I get the feeling Clowes and Warne are very close and I expect it would take a lot for Clowes to make a change. If new investors come in at some point that would change the equation. At present I feel we are making forward steps as a club on and off the field so I will support as best I can.

Despite the idiocy posted elsewhere I have seen some good opinions. Many feel we are doing as well or better than could be reasonably expected, especially given the lack of striking power in the squad. Some think our main tactic is to try to drag other teams down to our level and then scrap it out. That's brutal but I think there is at least a small grain of truth there.

I think you're right Vidal in that Warne and Clowes are close. Clowes isn't stupid...and nor is Warne. Both know what is what. Both too realise we have no money and are shopping in the bargain basement. For me, both Clowes and Warne have done a remarkable job on next to no money and Warne I'm sure knows that we're punching above our weight...hence the style we play. I'm quite sure with most of the big time Charlie's we've had in the last 20 years we'd still be in L1.
Those who throw stones at Warne should be careful in what they wish for. I know for a fact that our aim this season was mid table - and certainly at present we're on course for that.
On a personal note I hope were able to do some business in January and address our lack of impact in the final third.
As I said, those that are knocking the management need to remember where we've come from and recognise the fact that we're still strapped for cash. Cheers. Terry in Spain 🇪🇸
