Derby County 1 - 2 Swansea City

DERBY COUNTY v SWANSEA CITY Championship #17

Wednesday 27th November 2024, 2000, Pride Park, Derby

Apologies for this late posting - unforgivable - life just got in the way and this one just crept up on me.

After a disappointing, bland, lack lustre performance on Saturday, believe it or not the knives are out for PW. Bit daft but if you do get these tourists who have just jumped onto the DCFC band wagon, with their away memberships joining then expectations are going to be unrealistic.

Talking of away games, best decision I took on Saturday by not driving up to Preston - I would have got wet....

Swansea tonight, no Dean Yates so who moves in? Brown or Collz? To me, Brown looked a little out of his depth v Preston and was blowin' out of his 'arris.

We are where we are (of course) and clearly expectations need to be tempered.

Sorry for the paucity of this article - I'll do better next time.....hopefully....maybe....

After the first 25 mins or so I could understand the crowd's annoyance. Just letting their goalie and full backs (or whoever) faff about with the ball under token challenges was infuriating but as soon as we started to pressure them we gradually took control (even without a CF) such that JWZ had nowt to do. All credit to the team for fighting back after that dreadful start but you do have to question PW picking Harness as a virtual number 9 (or so it appeared) when any of Brown, Collo or even Washington could have played.

I thought CBT was good and was surprised to see him leave quite early but that was maybe down to lack of match time? Very disappointed in Kenzo who seems to have lost his early spark - not sure he is worth a place at present. My MOM was Wilson who seemed to take the lot of them on on his own at times. Nels and Cash were solid after that horrible start and Ebou was Ebou (inc some wayward passing). Jackson again contrived to miss a great chance but NML looked better when he played wide right. Elder was OK but maybe tired a little.

So there was some redemption after the early horror show and I hope lessons have been learned.

I thought there was a lot of the good about that performance but unfortunately it didn’t start until we were 2-0 down. On the overall balance of play we ought to have won really but we gave ourselves far too much to do. I agree that Kenzo is struggling to have enough impact at the moment and Harness is also one luxury player too many on tonight’s display. But I thought there were a few very good individuals such as Wilson and Cash and Barkhuizen looked very good when he came on.

I don’t think there is any magic combination that is guaranteed to work. It may well be the case that if Collins and Brown had started instead of Harness and Jackson that the outcome would have been the same. We don’t have enough players of good quality to outplay other teams in this division so it looks as though it is going to be down to a bit of tinkering here and there and fighting for scraps for the time being.

I thought we stuck at it very well. I applauded them at the end and was abused for doing so by a chap leaving in front of me. Hey ho.

Abused for supporting your club and fans. We really do have some thick 'fans'. How does booing galvanise the players? I really dislike this mentality.

That was what I was driving at with the OP.

I too stood and applauded at the end along with Mrs View.

A lot of tourists in the ground last night.

A few day-after thoughts.

Apparently that was our best in terms of chances created - we just got no lucky bounces at all. Is it coincidence that that stat arose when NML was wide right and CBT was wide left?

I was a bit hard on Jackson - that missed chance was not an easy one. On the other hand I'm not convinced he's worth a place just because he works hard.

Barks - a very talented player but apart from injuries I feel he has never nailed down a place because he is too inconsistent. Harkness is also very talented (cf that excellent strike resulting in Jackson hitting the bar) but he does drift in and out. Maybe he is indeed a winger but we have plenty of those.

The ref - not too bad apart from inconsistent with his bookings. Franco got away with two really bad challenges but a Derby player (was it Elder?) was done for next to nowt.

S's first goal was a beauty but the replay from the front of the goal (presumably from the opposite end of the ground) showed that JWZ was an inch away from a brilliant save.

I just wonder, assuming neither Collo nor Brown was going to start, why Washington was not given a chance. OK he is not a CF but neither is Jackson.

All in all and after the first 25 minutes I agree that it was a much better performance than for some time. I would certainly have applauded them off at the end.

Dear Mr Vidal

We were sorry to hear that your recent match day experience at Pride Park may not have met your expectations, and that this may have been further exacerbated by the behaviour of another guest seated nearby.

I am delighted to report that we have recently appointed a "Match Day Ambassador"; the lovely Mrs Felicity Scouse.

When you next attend Pride Park please make yourself known to a "Match Hostess" (formerly a Steward" who will notify Mrs Scouse and ensure that you are seated in a reserved area screened from those unfortunates who think it acceptable to vent their frustrations on other guests.

I hope that you will continue to enjoy your time with us and if we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the DCFC Customer Helpline. JA606; We are here to help.........🐏
