Amorim presser

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on whether defenders Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez will be fit to play: "Not Harry. Lisandro is ready. I felt he had enough time so is ready. A different situation with Harry.

"We need them both, but they are in a different situation. They are both training. Harry will be ready soon and on the pitch also."

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on summer signing Leny Yoro: "He is available to train but we are working on his fitness, which is important. He is a young guy.

"This is a massive club. It is very important the first image so we will try to put everything together because he is a great talent. We believe a lot in him and we are trying to prepare the best way."

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on his first home game as manager: "Everyone has said to me it will be a special time. I just want to win the game. Just to give that happiness to the supporters.

"Before the match it will be like a new sensation, but after the whistle it will be one more game and we want to win that match."

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on whether he plans to rotate his squad: "We have to do it, especially in this moment because we have a lot of games and in the beginning of something they have to feel that they are part of the team.

"They are international players. We will try to rotate and try to win every game - have a clear idea of how to play and everybody needs to be on the same page."

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on whether he risks a divide in the squad by splitting training sessions - between those who play in the Premier League and those who feature in the Europa League: "They are already split because if Bruno [Fernandes] plays tomorrow he cannot train for two days, even the day before the next match he cannot train - just slowly, or jogging.

"So they are already split. What I am seeing is that some guys that don't play, the next day after the match they will train and have an opportunity to have a real training session. Some guys will play, some will have the opportunity to have a training session and in the next game we will change positions."

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes on whether the players should take the blame for the sacking of Erik ten Hag: "If you change a manager mid-season it is because things are not going as you want and if the things are not going as you want then everyone has to take the blame.

"As I have said before, it is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 or 20 players, but now our focus is on what the future can bring and get as quick as possible the ideas of the new manager."

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes on his role in getting the manager's ideas across: "You always have to adapt to different ideas and positions, even sometimes on playing in the same system you have to adapt to different ideas of playing - on the ball and off the ball - because the manager can ask different things.

"It is not difficult for me to adapt in any position. I am really well aware of that.

"During training I try to absorb everything, of every position. I try to have an understanding of the game because being the captain the manager cannot always give the message from the bench to the pitch, because of the noise or whatever, so as a captain you have to try to resolve the situation together with your team-mates. Having knowledge of every position is my role."

More from Ruben Amorim on being interrupted by Ed Sheeran in his post-match interview on the pitch following Sunday's draw at Ipswich and the singer's subsequent apology: "Sometimes you overcomplicate things. It was nothing, a simple thing to say hello to one of the commentators. And I was with Roy Keane, who is a real star, so was nothing."

You missed out the bit about Rash returning to goalscoring form like a couple of seasons ago.

Think he said something like “Rash has to be the first one to want it” (then the coaches will help him from there).

Interesting take into Rashfords form I thought…

Will be interesting to see how he manages the next month’s fixtures: we have ten games between now and the end of Dec, including two fairly important EL matches, Arsenal, City, Newcastle, high flying Forest, and Spurs in a cup QF

There’s definitely going to have to be some prioritisation work done, but how do you even begin that considering how important the EL might be by the end of the season, and the fact that we really do have to be picking up points against the likes of Everton, Wolves and Bournemouth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To summarise : we are facked.
We have scored the 17th most goals in the league.

We either turn it around massively, or we linger in the bottom half of the table in both Europa and pl because we can't score goals.

...and a captain who is facked with something if he can't train between games

I know it is not unusual for pros to be carrying something that impacts like that but it's hardly ideal.

Maguire misses more than he plays these days.

I just want to win the game.

Good lad, Ruben.

As I said on Rosso’s thread the other day, our fans need to accept we are going to remain around where we are in the league for the rest of the season.

Anything higher will be a bonus, imo.

But where Ruben has impressed me is that he has stated that isn’t going to be good enough. He accepts we have to win games.

My big concern is our lack of football intelligent players.

It's the old adage of taking one game at a time and just hope that we can make some sort of decent progress over the coming weeks, accepting the fact that there are going to be a few bumps on the way.

It's easy to get too negative after the start to this season and what has been a difficult period, allowing for the 2 cup wins.

But I just like how Amorim comes across, so I think in the short-term it might not be as bad as we think

I like him. I just hope he sticks with his principles because I feel Erik, and those before him, haven't really and have suffered as a result of the halfway house we've been stuck in.

If he does win the battle of wills and gets to do things his way then we may just be surprised by some of the players in the short term and the results will follow.

No matter what the formation we play it's vital these players start getting the basics right. Tomorrow I expect to see him select a more energetic team and I think we'll look better (not perfect though) as a result.

I've said it many times in the past. It won't get better than United for these players. They need to realise that and pull their fingers out!

That, mentality, and physicality/athleticism are three serious and under appreciated issues with the squad which need sorting out.

We have some *sometimes effective*, undoubtedly talented players on very big money who don’t have the brains, bottle, and/or build we need, and they need shipping out.

As fans, we spend a lot of time worrying about some of the technical attributes of players whilst ignoring the fact that those aforementioned head-and-haunches qualities are becoming just as important at the elite level of the game.

A few years back I made a comment after one of our games that pretty much sums up the last decade or so.

Luke Shaw and AWB have this uncanny ability that very few footballers have where they manage to find an opposition player with every throw in.
