Did anyone see the coverage of Spurs yesterday on Sky? Throughout the match Jamie Carragher, who has repeatedly praised Postecoglu in the last 16 months, suddenly changed his narrative to 'he may have a philosophy, but it's naive to play the same way each week and he'll get sacked if he carries on' despite previously lauding the Spurs boss for sticking to his principles.
Carragher's swift change of stance certainly struck me as odd, which has made me wonder if the former Liverpool defender is planting a long term 'Amorim out' agenda by initially using the tactic on Ange. Ruben has repeatedly said he will stick to his principles and ways of playing, which he's even conceded will see us lose a fair few on the way to getting it right.
I just wonder if Carragher has sensed an opportunity here and will soon by gunning for Amorim, either next season or the year after by saying the same thing.

Strike - I think West Ham were the last non top flight team to win the FA Cup.
It is difficult to win stuff when there are other teams primed to win too but in an era where the likes of Portsmouth, Wigan, Swansea, Birmingham have won trophies you'd have expected Spurs to pick up one in that time really too.

Yeah sorry you are right, West Ham in 1980

Regarding Ange, I think yesterday was particularly tough because the 2 pens were due to really poor decision making by the players - as a manager, I'm not sure you can legislate for your players making such stupid challenges.
Right now, it feels that there will be about 10 games or so where Spurs are totally on it, and whoever they play, they could destroy them (such as the 2 Manchester clubs recently). By the same token, there will be about the same number of games where they just aren't at the races and a really poor performance is put in.
And as for the rest of the games, well, you'll get somewhere in between.
Spurs don't know how to win ugly, or even just avoid losing when it's not quite going their way.
That appears to need a bit of tweaking by Ang - nothing wrong with the general philosophy, but occasionally you need to be pragmatic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pens were individual brainfarts no doubt about it but they were the end product of a poor defensive display and game management when 2-0 up. There were two other goals equally poor for the same reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was inevitable - we all knew we had scored too early and didn’t really deserve a 2 goal lead. Still though, it’s another 2 goal lead he has blown.
To be fair though, game management has been a problem for years, it’s not new to Ange.
The problem is the culture at the club - no one goes to Tottenham to win anything. It starts at the top, there is no expectation to win, no pressure to win, and at times there is no desire to win - some of our cup surrenders have proven that.
As soon as a manager tries to win trophies all goes wrong. 1 league cup in 25 years under ENIC and some of our fans still back them because they like the stadium and how well we are doing financially
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think managers have gone there to win things. The problem imo just looking from the outside in, is your decent managers have taken Spurs from one extreme to another. There needs to be the right balance between playing entertaining football which spurs fans enjoy whilst also controlling games and having a focus on apragmatic defensive approach. And the second thing (I could be wrong here) but Levy not backing the manager with transfers when they're ready to progress to the next stage in progression of the manager's plans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Financially Levy does back the club, I have little complaint about how much we spend.
Unfortunately, we are just like United in the way we spend it - zero strategy or cohesiveness. We buy a player for a certain style of play only to find they can do it - Dragusin, can’t play in high line. We buy players who don’t have the right mentality - too many to mention
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm thinking of managers such as Poch, Jose, even going back to Martin Jol.
I agree about the wisdom of your recruitment. There have been some great buys though. The culture definitely needs to change. Whatever can be said if the gooners, not won the league in 20 yrs or a trophy in 5, they are still expected to win something. Why not Spurs, does seem like a mental thing. Btw don't get me wrong against the likes of Livpl and City I don't think Arsnl will win the league but they consider themselves to be able to do it. Even Chelsea are expected to have that aim, granted because of the billions they've spent but Spurs never come across like that. Even the aim of finishing top 4 seems half hearted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We never struck when the iron was hot - Fergie would have built sides around the likes Bale and Modric or Kane and Son.
Poch did to a degree, but beyond our first 11 and maybe 3 subs we had nothing. Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente were Kane and Sons back up. Harry Winks and Lamela were Eriksen and Ali’s back up. Sissoko was Dembele’s back up. Eric Dier was Vertonghen and Alderweireld’s back up. We replaced Kyle Walker with Kieran Trippier. Danny Rose had no back up.
That was the reality, great 1st 11, a couple of decent subs and then average at best elsewhere.

Let's face it, these days it's a complete lottery as to whether you can win a cup for most teams, although losing a number of finals in more recent years hasn't helped.
The key question for me is this - are Spurs a side who could currently spend more, but they aren't willing to do so for whatever reason, or are they at the limit of what they are spending.
It may require some new investment and a new vision with a new owner, or dare I say someone who is a bit more risky without being crazy, compared to what Levy is at the moment in terms of spending, if you really want to challenge for regular top 4.
Spurs have probably been punching above the weight against their expenditure in recent years, but it's hard to maintain that.

The moment Spurs had to capitalize, was after that 2016 season in which Leicester won the title. That was when Levy simply had to get the chequebook out and back Poch to the tune of £200 million but he never did.
The fact the Argentinian took a severely underfunded squad to a UCL final 3 years later, speaks volumes about his quality as a manager. I'm fairly sure after that unlucky defeat to Liverpool in Madrid, Levy still didn't really back him.

Carragher did annoy me on comms yesterday to be fair. Think he was OTT on a lot of points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just watch when he turns on Amorim. He's no doubt bitter, because he publicly wanted Amorim in charge at Anfield after Klopp walked away. His bitterness towards him will be strong when he starts calling for his head on MNF next season.
Carragher should be sacked anyway for assaulting a little girl.
