With Junior Firpo’s injury appearing fairly serious and coming with a busy Christmas period looming, despite the history of Max Wober, I realise how heartened I now feel about his performance on Saturday.
It may well be that he can step into Junior’s boots far more seamlessly than seemed possible after all…
Like many others, I was skeptical before Saturday. Let’s get behind him now and if he puts in more performances like that, let bygones be bygones. His contribution could prove pivotal.
Max Wober…

Lee Chapman comes to mind....or Becchio
--------------------------------
as much as I love these players MRU, theres no way they'd could play a Bielsa number 9 ... no where near mobile enough for me...
also, Chapman, Becchio, Beckford all left on good terms...
nothing like Wober

I actually never disliked Wober, I thought a lot was overblown by a few...
when I was younger I would have more than probably be in the camp of 'never wear a Leeds shirt again", but I think now I'm older I don't seem to have this tribalness about me so much when it comes to football...
we need to be promoted this season, anyone who can help with that is ok in my book.
if it helped the team get promoted, I'd even have Eric Cantona back
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What about Beckford ??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Beckford in a heartbeat. He did nothing wrong in the first place.
-------------------------------------------------------
Snow, I'm not overly sure BEckford would even start for us tho...
I think MRU was joking also, as I'm well known to have an issue with Beckford ... having said that I think MRU missed exactly why
always said Beckford a great player for us at that time.. scored some very important goals... my issue with Beckford is how he goes about his 'love for Leeds' these days, as a pundit... its cringy at best.... I just can't take to it... the way he carry's on you'd think he played for us all his career, and the fans buy it too... I listen to him sometimes and I'm like mate you played for us for 5 minutes and left on a free

Wöber was one of the players that I thought held PL standard, when he played for Leeds in that division.
One of the few in the backline

I know what you mean. I find a lot of what he says a bit cringe. His ‘banter’ is cringe too.
But I think he does genuinely have affection for Leeds, good memories, success and most of all Leeds changed his life. Plucking him from nowhere. I think that’s what makes the difference.
I also think he comes across as a decent bloke.
He just lays it on a bit thick for his media persona

Decent enough for the prem. Great level to have on the bench in the Championship.
Not as good as some hyped though and a fair bit behind Struijk for me

Never been bothered by ‘the rats’. The club put contractual clauses in that more than halved salaries on relegation. They were designed to ‘push’ players out to save money. We’re fans so it’s easy to say we’d play for free. They’re not - in their shoes most of us would do the same.
Back to Wober. Good footballer - certainly at this level. Plenty of experience at left back…. But he’s clearly a natural centre back and his lack of pace will be exposed by quality wingers. If he plays tomorrow, in Ben Doak, he’ll face the championship’s trickiest winger so will be a test… Hopefully not an ordeal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So who would you pick of the two to handle Doak tomorrow…Wober or Byram? I feel Wober, being a centre back, would provide greater physicality against Doak to muscle him off the ball, so I would go with him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think due to injuries Byram is forced to play right back, so it will have to be wober. If bogle was fit - for this particular game I’d play Byram… just a bit more mobile and a bit more experienced at full back.
As it is we’ll have to cut off the supply where we can and double team Doak - think that’s what most sides have been doing recently.

Yes…Max didn’t let me down and out in another good shift. Unlucky with the o.g.
Now the question is, with Wober successfully filling Firpo‘s shoes at the moment would you allow Firpo to leave in January before the end of his contract and save some money on wages?

Real - think we surely have to keep him until the end of the season?
if we sold him now, and for whatever reason we needed cover we'd have to rely on another squad player, or worse still, a newly bought 'squad player', who we'd be lucky if was better than Firpo.. better the devil you know.. and he;s been good recently..
having said that, I'm not overly sure of the contract or financial implications of letting his contract run down.. be a shame to let him leave for free tbh
