League Cup Quarters...

We are just 3 games away from a cup final, and Crystal Palace is the next hurdle to leap.

The team will be interesting, especially as we face the same opponent at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Both teams could rotate, but following their impressive win on Sunday, Palace will want to build momentum in the double header.

Our record in League Cup quarter finals in recent years isn't great. We did smash Sunderland 5-1 the last time we reached this stage in 21/22. An Eddie Nketiah hat-trick was the highlight - we don't want to see one of them this time!! Charlie Patino was also on the scoresheet, with Nico Pepe.
A year before, Manchester City demolished us 4-1 - Gabriel Jesus on the scoresheet for his former employers.
In the 18/19 season it was a disappointing 2-0 home QF defeat to our old mates Tottenham Hotspur.
2017/18 we fared better, a Danny Welbeck goal was enough to beat West Ham, but a season before we were beaten easily by Southampton.

In 2012 it was at this stage we suffered one of our biggest embarrassments, a penalty shoot-out defeat to 4th tier Bradford City. Thomas Vermaelen seemed to have saved our blushes with a very late equaliser, but after Cazorla and Chamakh had missed their penalties it was Vermaelen who ultimately missed the decisive kick.

Crystal Palace have only reached this stage 5 times - and won 4 of their QF matches! Last time they were here was the 11/12 season when they shocked Manchester United at Old Trafford with an extra time win before a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat to Cardiff in the semi-final, denying them their first League Cup final.

Back in 92/93, Palace beat Chelsea 3-1 in the Quarters. It set up a two legged semi-final with Arsenal. Ex-Eagle Ian Wright scored in both legs, with Alan Smith netting twice in the away leg and Andy Linaghan scoring a rare - but far from his most important that season - goal to give us a 5-1 aggregate win. It led to our second League Cup trophy win - and last as it stands...

Our game is Wednesday at 7:30 and on the same night Newcastle host Brentford (7:45) and Southampton are the home side entertaining Liverpool (8). Then on Thursday night at 8pm is Spurs versus Manchester United.
Given the Bees away form, Newcastle should be favourites while Liverpool should stuff the Saints even with a heavily rotated XI. Spurs and Man Utd are having somewhat similar seasons and wouldn't like to call it. Very contrasting styles, with Spurs gung-ho attitude comparing to the new pragmatic United system.

When the 115 stuff gets sorted out are Bristol City going to get their deserved final against Wenger and Arsenal at Wembley or what? What’s going to happen about the semi final those idiots cheated to win? ‘Allegedly’ Pep asked LJ what the funny pitch markings were, he asked if they were tactical as Bristol City had been on a great run knocking out plenty of premier league teams including Moan Utd with Jose in charge along the way……they were Bristol Bears rugby pitch markings Pep Man City
