Derby County 2 - 1 West Bromwich Albion

DERBY COUNTYv WEST BROMWICH ALBION Championship #23

Thursday 26th December 2024, 1730 Pride Park

So here is the Christmas version, on Christmas Day before I embarrass myself before the Notts Forest fans as has been the case this week. Must be weird jumping on the success of a club which has been in the doldrums so long - still in fairness we do have our share of ‘where were you when we were 5hit?’

After a morale beating against Portsmouth, it was back to the agony/fury/ frustration of a defeat snatched from victory. So annoying but we move on.

Cash is still out and we still struggle to convert what little chances we have - but hey, we move on.

Let’s leave it and enjoy Christmas - still better than we were 2/3 years - it’s a slow climb but we’ll get there.

Boxing Day- can we continue? Hopefully. Because if there is an embarrassment, the sharpy things from the cutlery drawer will be out - again.

Happy Christmas to all the DCFCJA606 posters - let’s hope we get a late present on Boxing Day.

Team: Zetterström (GK), Wilson, Nelson, Phillips, Elder, Goudmijn, Adams, Harness, Jackson, Mendez-Laing (C), Yates

Subs: Vickers (GK), Ward, Forsyth, Bradley, Barkhuizen, Collins, Blackett-Taylor, Chirewa, Brown

Past injuries are not a reliable indicator of future fitness. Though we talk of players being "made of glass" mostly they are chance events and some players are unlucky. I expect Palace will want to scrutinise Ozoh's MRI and make the decision about what happens to him.

A good win...funny how we do better with a back 4.

VC, do you still consider Zetterström to be a downgrade on Wildsmith ? 🤔

I liked the look of Chirewa too. Got somethin about him.

What was his injury?

'freak quad injury' - is how it was referred to

With Ozoh and Tawanda Chirewa playing five and two matches respectively out of twenty three league games so far do you consider keeping them on loan or look to return them?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ultimately, it wont be up to us, Desi.

Assuming they are both fit by the end of the window, which is likely when other loans become available, why would you send them back? Especially Ozoh. I don’t think anyone thinks he’s not worth a place in our team and anyone new is a gamble.

Cash might struggle to get back into the team if Phillips keeps playing like he has recently.

Did you not get an invite to be on the player transfer panel?

I'm of the same thinking on both accounts. Ozoh was a beast in the small time he's been with us. I was surprised to read elsewhere fans want him to return so we can get someone else. Chirewa I haven't got an opinion on yet ( just seeking out what others think)

Cash is still young and we have to be careful not to overuse him. Nat coming in and possibly cementing the position is, in my opinion, a good thing. Will make Cashin eager to get back in and considering PW's choice of tactics won't be too long before we see the three of them together. Nat has to keep his position until he has a stinker.

Spart got the final space.

I’d be very surprised if Cash didn’t come straight back in when fully fit. He and Adams have pretty much shared the MOM in every game this season and he has been consistently superb over a long period. Phillips has had a couple of decent games but not at Cash’s level for me. But he has deputised well enough for Warne to take absolutely no chances. BC used to say that if a player told him that he was completely recovered from a hamstring injury he would say “Thanks” and then give it another couple of weeks before selecting him.

Stoke down to manager no. three for the season!

Probably all depends on how long he’s out for and how long our unbeaten run goes. If we’re knocking on the door of the playoffs after 8 successive clean sheets then there’s a decision to be made …
