Who buys and sells players at city

Bit of a hangover conversation from Christmas but thought one of you (I'm sure Melton will!) may understand the set up better. Unfortunately our lone gobby United cousin (could be se85 except he's actually from Manchester 😉) says Pep will decide who he wants to work with and then Dof will ship out the ones he doesn't. I'm sure he's involved in conversations but I thought it was the director of footballs role to oversee the squad, rather than following Peps lead. Youth players especially, if they aren't part of the first team set up how would Pep know whether they fit?

Cheers all hope you've had a good crimbo!

It's Boris you're dealing with. The truth doesn't matter.

Pinocchio was a big Liverpool fan, went to Anfield more time than most of the people on here.

Will be interesting with Txiki on his way, Viana coming in and who-knows-what with Pep to see how the rebuild is shaped.

Most head coaches like working with larger (some quite a bit larger) squads than Pep does. Is now the time to start building some more depth in preparation for Pep’s departure?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pep would prefer 20/21 top players he can rotate with a few kids to make up the numbers.

Worked well in the past but not this season with all the injuries.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s even suggested 17/18 senior players in the past Boris.

There are plenty of contemporary coaches who prefer smaller squads than we’ve traditionally seen, but Pep is obviously an extreme example.

Smaller squads but with quality players makes sense when it comes to rotation and the total wagebill.

Can't remember him having only 18 players who could be classed as 'quality' though.

I think the more pressing issue than adding depth is to find suitable long term replacements for KDB, Stones, Walker and Bernardo. All have had fantastic City careers but are now over relied on, and the first three in particular can't stay injury free long enough to carry out the roles still needed of them

First priority should be 2 full backs.

Rico might grow into a decent RB in time but we definately need a LB now, I like Gvaridol but he gives me the horrors every time he gets the ball these days.

Gvardiol seems a bit like Cancelo MK2 when I've seen him. Either world class or absolute liability, often both in the same game

Just checked and he’s only used 20 senior players (22 including the cameos by McAtee and Simpson-Pusey) so far this season, even with all the injuries in play.

And that 20 includes Grealish and Nunes, so arguably only 18 quality players

Ake's a much better LB than him but both players are really CBs.

I'm surprised Pep hasn't tried Josko in MF, possibly as a DM.
