How strange it has been, considering some of the bad blood which has been shed over the years, for several hundred comments to have been made by fans of Derby and Leeds on the respective match threads leading up to yesterday’s game without anything coming close to an outbreak of nastiness between the parties concerned. Instead we witnessed mutual respect, politeness and unbiased observations on the merits of both clubs. We have parted on infinitely better terms than traditionally occurs when you wave bye-bye to the in-laws after the Christmas festivities.
WTF is going on?
If such a thing can happen between ourselves and our most ancient and fiercest rivals, surely we can extend this spirit to the fans of the club next in that particular pecking order? We are, after all, swimming in very different ponds at the moment and there is no immediate prospect of our meeting in anything other than a Cup-tie. Were the team in question anyone but Forest I would definitely be admiring the way they are going about their business.
Don’t get me wrong: I would like nothing more than for it all to go up in as much smoke as you might see at a firebombed bakery, but is it possible to hold that wish dear but still to be able to have a civilised debate with the enemy? Is that wishful thinking? Or is it actually preferable to goad, gall and gloat and call it “banter"? I know I am as guilty as any here.
I’m just asking the question at the turn of the year. To show I mean it, I’m not even going to suggest that RFB probably thinks that Entente Cordiale is the soft drink his Mum gives him whenever they go camping in Brittany.
Can we do it? Can we be grown-ups? Or has that ship long since sailed?
Entente Cordiale?

So far as I'm concerned, Forest are having an exceptional season. Mostly thanks to having arguably the best manager currently lying his trade in the UK.
I'm a tad jealous, obviously, but I don't begrudge them their lofty position.

Good post Vidals.
I was disparaging of our little brother but think the Villa game was a turning point for me when I actually saw them attack instead of that stifle the game and hope for a chance stuff. Now I wish them all the best they have a formula that could see them do a Leicester. There's a little bit of sour grapes in how Forest and Fester bent the rules and excelled and we ended up in League One and deducted 21 points. Maybe like slumdog millionaire it's meant to be, hoping my grandkids at least are the beneficiaries of me supporting Derby through thick and thick.
If Forest continue playing the way they are though I can't begrudge them the success. I think most clubs have to play foul to get out of the championship sadly. It's business first and a game second now.
I'd say the well mannered debate is more to our current lowly position. Working class scrappers fighting tooth and nail to stay in a league we once took for granted. Albeit with a few shoots of green sprouting from the rubble.
I imagine and hope we will be competitive again but for now we're a fair way behind the leading packs of the Championship and Premier.
Leeds v Forest I think would be a cracking game and I'd love to draw little brother in the cup. Do to them what they did to the Premier for their first 2.25 seasons.
Best of luck to all though until we're able to compete again and return to childish insults of a comical nature, well from us at least.
In terms of Cloughie looking down from the footballing clouds on high though, I think I know which club currently would reflect his values the most. N proud of the honest, gritty struggle the lads have shown ... even if I thought we were too gritty in League One.
Hopefully we're banking some Karma for future generations of Rams fans.

What is this absolute mess? It stinks of Derby fans rolling over and saying “Please go easy on us Forest fans because we know you’re miles better than us and we can’t take the banter”
Derby fans have been some of the worst wums on this board - particularly to some of the Forest lot - in recent years. There’s no chance this article would have been created if Forest were in the championship. Suck it up - football is swings and roundabouts

Leeds are also miles better than us at the moment so that isn’t the issue. There was a lot of nastiness on here between some Derby and Leeds fans in the past but it just seems better to do away with the gratuitous insults and try to communicate as reasonable human beings. There are plenty of other places where fans can indulge in the more childish stuff if that’s what they enjoy.

Forest are your big rivals - let’s be honest. They’re geographically closer, there’s the Brian Clough element, the managerial crossovers and recent championship history. Derby haven’t had a meaningful rivalry with Leeds since the 70s ffs so it’s hardly the same.
Again - this stinks of Derby fans rolling over the moment that Forest get the clear upper hand in the rivalry and now trying to tag themselves to Leeds as the better rivalry. Behave
I’m not saying childish insults and trolling should be welcomed - but this just feels a blatant attempt at distancing yourselves from your closest rivals because they’re far better than you

Going back to the Leeds fans Vidal, Its a Leeds fan who helped me set up the prediction league table. I was most grateful for his help and time as i was so busy with work.
Nothing to do with rolling over as 98 says.True football fans can see they are a league above us so there is no argument. Rivalry will always be there just at this time there is no game between us and unlikely to be so for a while. Rivalry on a football game however is different to how people have to treat each other. I know Leeds fans and Forest fans through work and have been friends for years. Banter always but whatever happens we have remained friends throughout.

The bit about Leeds being our most ancient and fiercest rivals was just my little joke for any Forest fans who might be reading, Mr Problems.

Tvvat couldn’t win it because most hadn’t heard of him the irrelevant fox degenerate.
