He did as he was told. Simple.

This is an example of how far too greater emphasis is placed on ENGLAND when it comes to these honours.
What a joke.

FTFY
Seriously, this establishment scheite needs to get in the bin. The Post Office guys should be the real recipients of the knighthoods because they won - only it was against the establishment so 'we'll palm these plebs off with lesser awards lest they get above themselves'.
Presumably, other home country managers that serve a long time and over-achieve can GTF? Goes back a long way - Jock Stein overlooked for 1967 because his achievement wasn't an English one.
I expect Harry Kane (pen) will get one in a few years too.

This is a perfect example of everything that’s wrong with the English mentality - and why we’ll always bottle major football tournaments until something changes
Rewarding somebody for doing well but ultimately falling short is the epitome of Englishness

No, I do mean sport.
Alan Hansen MBE… for what? Being a good footballer and a forthright pundit?

I wouldn't grudge Southgate an MBE if we are to have a farce of an honours system. A knighthood FFS
Hansen is firmly establishment though.
Just wait, Linekar will be getting a knighthood - again, for what.

Southgate is the reason Terry Venables didn't get a knighthood if you think about it.
