Liverpool’s performance against Manchester United yesterday was pretty much rubbish from start to finish. In truth, we should be thrilled with the point as it was more than we deserved. The conditions—lashing rain and relentless wind—played a part, but there’s no escaping the fact that United coped far better with them. They controlled too much of the game, created the better chances, and if it weren’t for a couple of heroic stops from Alisson and a terrible miss from Maguire, they’d have taken all three points. It wasn’t a performance Liverpool will look back on fondly, but the point could prove crucial down the line, and considering we had a tougher fixture than Arsenal this weekend, and they didn't gain any ground, we can look somewhat positively on it.
A major concern is the form of Trent. His head doesn’t seem to be in the right place, and it’s becoming glaringly obvious - his celebration against West Ham clearly shows how big a part this is playing for him. His body language, positioning, and decision-making all reflect a player distracted by off-field matters. Compare that to Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, two players also facing uncertainty about their futures but who have delivered consistent, top-class performances throughout the season. Their professionalism under similar circumstances should serve as a blueprint for Trent.
This isn’t to suggest that Trent lacks ability or passion—his contributions to Liverpool over the years have been immense even if he is prone to an absolute stinker of a performance. He's clearly gone in summer, but the stark reality is that his Liverpool career may very well be defined by how he approaches the coming months. If he knuckles down and focuses on helping the team push for the title, he could leave as a club legend. If not, performances like yesterday’s could tarnish his legacy.
A quick word on United: While their fans will be buoyed by the result, I don’t see it as a sign of an impending resurgence. With the quality at their disposal, they are always capable of delivering a strong performance, especially in high-stakes rivalry matches. We saw it against City earlier in the season. The real test will be their ability to replicate this intensity against teams like Palace and Bournemouth. Until then, it’s far too early for United fans to get carried away.
For Liverpool, yesterday was a wake-up call. We’re not entitled to points, regardless of the conditions or the opposition. For Trent, it’s a moment of reckoning. His attitude and performances over the next few months will not just define how his time at Anfield is remembered but could also have a significant impact on Liverpool’s title aspirations.

Seemed like his brain was elsewhere yesterday.
I get the feeling the decision to move or stay is weighing heavily on him.
Came away thinking, chances of him u-turning are higher than I thought.

U-turning? Would be the first time he’s tracked back in his career …
Seriously though, I can understand a possible move to RM weighing on anyone’s mind, but surely to fook somebody can get their game head on for 90 mins for their club’s biggest fixture? I know his game is generally pretty “sleepy” out of possession, but yesterday was a whole new level. Looked stoned.

Exactly - I don't buy the contract saga is on his mind and affecting him during the game.
He had a poor game, and it suits the media and others to blame it on the contract saga, rather than accept he had a poor game. Maybe if he has half a dozen poor games, you could question his focus, but has he not been one of your best players this season?

They didnt control the game and we had the best chances, possession and shots. Gakpo, Macallister and Virg all had sitters. Much improved from Utd whilst we were definitely not at our best.
Agree on Trent though and he should have been whipped off.
Agree on United in future, theyve done this before it was their cup final yesterday

Spot on my backside. You lot are absolutely blinkered beyond all reality.
You had the best chances? Since when? Hojlund and Maguire had the best two chances in the match by far. Most of the ones that landed for Liverpool had to be snatched at and weren't straight forward really. The McCalister one for example is tough skill over the shoulder like that first time.
You lot live on a different planet to everyone else. You didn't have full control either. It ebbed and flowed.

I just told u the 3 sitters. Look at the xG also. Not that hard to grasp

I feel it was a 50-50 game with good chances on both sides. Not sure Liverpool were that terrible - both sides caused each other problems. Liverpool not used to another team matching them on the day, so probably looked worse than normal, and tbh, we aren't used to putting in such a good performance or playing so well

Trent gets way too much stick for every bad game he has. Look at the articles on BBC. No other player gets criticised like him.

I posted something similar to this a few weeks ago when Trent had a nightmare against Man City. His attitude is shocking and his laziness is shocking. I can live with Robbo playing poorly as he at least looks like he cares. Trent just ambles around wanting to ponce around in midfield stroking balls around. We have accomplished players in there to do that already. By playing in this crappy inverted fullback role is just a licence for him to be lazy, not track back and not overlap. I absolutely hate his role and his attitude. I hope we get rid. Don’t care how talented he is…lazy and crap attitude. Go.

Trent deserves criticism. who else talks about winning the ballon d'or besides that idiot jr.
300K per week for a player you cant really fit into the team is disgraceful. And you already have his replacement whos better at the position.

Calm down fella, stop acting like you’re back on your perch after one decent game.
It was a pretty even game imo, United probably had more energy cause it was the first time this season most of them have actually put some effort in. United are the most tested team in the league.
United fans should actually be disgusted with the players. It takes for them to come up against st the best team in the country for them to be bothered.
