Son's Contract Extended

Club announced they have exercised the option to extend his deal by 1 year taking him up to the summer of '26.

Makes sense given how poor Werner has been, guess he'll become a 150K a week headache for Klopp @ RB in the summer.

Personally, not a fan of Son as captain, would much prefer Kulu but he's been a great player and wouldn't wanna see him play for anyone else in the Prem. Would imagine he'd go back to Asia to wrap up his career and hand the mantle of South Korean poster boy for all our tourists to the new kid on the block.

Starting to feel like his legs are starting to go a bit and feels like he's a bit of a peripheral figure in games these days.... would imagine a left winger should be a priority signing in the summer (hard to know at this point what we really have in Odobert.

Top player but has declined big time. He can't play left wing anymore and he's not good enough to play as a 9. Knowing your owners that's Levy thinking he doesn't need to worry about left wing until 2026.

Love Sonny and think he deserves a new deal not just the option.

He has stuck by this club through thick and thin, whilst others have gone off and won things elsewhere. No doubt he had some big offers whilst he’s been with us.

Deserves to retire at the club. Just need some decent options to rotate with. Not cheap loan Werner.

Not sure the Premier League is the place for sentiment mate... I think 1 year is fine, Not sure Id really wanna be watching Son get game time in 2 years on big wages taking game time away from Moore, Odobert +Possible new signing just because he was once a great player.

I think he's been found a bit since Kane left
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Found out is a bit harsh. He's got a bit older for sure and if a WC player isnt pinging assists to him that isnt really a reflection on Son. He still makes things happen and he's still a great finisher, has something to offer, but he is certainly passed his absolute peak.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't really a criticism... I think anyone in his position might have a dip in form no longer playing alongside someone who's all-round game was as good as Kane's.

It's probably one of the things that was overlooked Re Kane's departure. So much attention was on his goals that we forgot how much space and opportunities he created for Son

As others love Sonny. He can be the most frustrating of players too but his brilliance and loyalty make up for it.

Yeah sadly by the looks of he is on the decline but he deserves more than anyone to win something with us.

Sorry mate but don't believe that loyalty means he deserves anything. He has been very well paid at Spurs over the past decade and has been a senior member of squads that could and should have won something... He's as culpable as all the rest.. Levy, the multiple managers and undoubtedly great players in Kane, Jan, Toby, Hugo, Walker, Eriksen, Dembele, Dele....

I think Spurs create a culture where players think they have made it when they haven't.... The stadium, the cushy training ground the social media love-fest.all the talk of us being a big club (Levy wanting us in the ESL !!!).. The last time a Spurs team looked really hungry and at it was the last year at the lane under Poch... Been too long !!!

Yeah i get what you mean. I guess its more sentiment than anything else from me because in some ways he's been through whole saga with us to an extent but also agree he has been part of that failure too.

Probably because I have a soft spot for him too.

He might be past his best but still has more to offer. At his best he wasn't at the level of a say, Harry Kane anyway although I'd say he flirted with being world class and probably was a few seasons ago for a bit.

Fine with him getting an extended contract. As long as we are aware we should look for better.

Of course.. how can you not love him.. He's a model pro/ decent guy/ great player but at the end of the day.. Its competition and about winning..... Nothing else matters

Sold in the summer. If not, it would be a new contract.

Held on a year too long.

Shame.

OK to keep as a squad player and for shirt sales. But from next season should not be a regular starter. Can stay on as club captain, but need a new onfield captain for next season.
