Mikel Merino

Whilst Havertz is (rightfully) getting slaughtered for another performance reminiscent of a dolphin out of water, some questions should be asked about Merino as well.

Was clearly a medium/long term target, not a panic buy, but I really don't get it. Average on the ball, average physically, honestly looks like he belongs at West Ham or Everton, though I'd take quite a few of the formers' players in exchange for Merino.

It's still early enough and he has time, but very much feels like he'll end up on a long list of our purchases that haven't worked out.

One thing I will give Merino is till next Jan. He did not have a preseason with us and got injured immediately. He is still new so not gonna judge him yet. The issue is squarely with our manager who has not invested in the front line, bought Havertz who if he had worked, we would not have Merino, but now persists with poor players and sh€it tactics.

I honestly felt he would be a good signing? I'd seen a bit of him prior to him arriving and was always pretty impressed but he's seemed tentative when I've watched him for Arsenal? As Maine said though that could still turn around, new city, new team and teammates, new way of playing, it can and might still work out for him

I would normally be more patient with a new signing - especially when they’ve been unlucky with getting injured as Merino has.

However, he was brought in for big money, as a very experienced plug-and-play signing. He looks slow, safety first, and very beige. So far I’m not even sure where the ‘duel monster’ tag came from.

Is more time really going to see sufficient improvement from him?

Didn’t even notice he was playing.

He's had a difficult start no pre-season and an injury as soon as he's arrived so you've got to cut him a bit of slack for that. However that being said to me he looks the most un Spanish player I've seen he's slow and clumsy on the ball, doesn't look technically proficient certainly from someone who's a Spanish international, not looking good at the moment for him.
