Tick tock.
This will be THE official thread to discuss possible transfers and completed deals. Surely we'll do some business in the next fortnight!
Feel free to give us your outlandish suggestions and panicked opinions. The wilder the better.

January Sales (and buys)

If Amorim thinks that Collyer can at least cover until the summer, we have to shift Casemiro in this window if we possibly can. Even at a knock down price to get his wages off the books. If not, then Eriksen has to go out.

Ideal window:
Miro to Saudi for £25m
Malacia somewhere for £17m
Antony out on loan somewhere he’ll play every week, with his wages paid
Rashford out on loan somewhere he’ll play every week, with his wages paid
Quenda in on loan with deal to buy in the summer
Alvaro Fernandez brought back for £17m

Does Alvaro have the pace and attacking verve to really transform the LWB position for us? He looks a promising LB who strikes the ball really nicely. But I'd have thought we need someone with more to their game in terms of pace and the ability to go at players one v one.
Also, he's a bit of risk is he not coming in from the Portuguese league back to us so young? Talented player but I'm not sold on him. Think it's a position we need to cough a bit more money up for to address in a more 'sure thing' way (if possible!).

The beauty of being THIS bad is that there are players out there available on loan this month who would massively improve us. That's how bad we are. 😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think? As soon as they come here they'll undergo a footballing transplant and become crap
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we constantly buy the wrong profile of player they will yeah. Funny how other clubs seem to manage.
I don't believe in curses. Might joke about it from time to time but curses aren't real. The reason we are crap is because we buy players who aren't very good or who are no longer any good in case of Casemiro.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, it was more in jest I was saying that. I just want us to get some actual quality in - not potential, but actual proven players. It's not easy, but I think in Ugarte and Maz we did that.
But it's tough to do that in this window.

Not sure Alvaro would want to come back anyway. He's going to have better options than us. Barca, Bayern and Liverpool scouts been watching him.
Cheers Erik. You absolute fool.

It isn’t really explosive pace as much as touch, quality build-up play, workrate, a decent brain and a quality delivery I think we need at LWB. Nuno Santos (Amorim’s ‘every week’ LWB at Sporting) isn’t a super pacy player; he didn’t need to be. He was, to a fair extent, a decoy player sat on the opposite touchline whilst the build up came through the centre and on the RHS with Quenda and Trincao. But he’s intelligent, ultra-disciplined and when a switch came, he’d link well or whip in a wicked ball.
I wouldn’t be suggesting Alvaro as the long-term solution at LWB (although he is burning it up in Portugal atm). Rather as a big upgrade on Malacia as backup/potential competition.
We don’t have money to spend this window, so if we can effectively financially swap Malacia for Fernandez, I’d be all over that. The larger question would be whether he’d be open to a return. He seems to be having a ball in Lisbon, challenging for the title (which Benfica I think will probably win), and the fans adore him already.

You know that Ten Hag is part of the reason the buyback clause is there, and that the club always considered bringing him back, right?
“We have a buy-back so we have control of the situation, I think that’s what he needed. From Preston, then go to La Liga, go to Portugal, every time stepping up to a higher club and a better league.
“Now we have to see and assess the situation if he can be an option for us.”

Even if we don't want him it'd make financial sense surely to take up the buy back clause then sell him in to someone that does want him. That is unless the sell on fee does pretty much the same thing.

What gonna happen is we’re gonna sell Rashford, Garnacho and Mainoo, then the manager will be sacked within 12 months and we will all be on here asking why the hell we sold those three as we watch three inevitably worse versions flapping around.

There's no credible link between United and any player out there. Not one.
That could mean negotiatons being done behind the scenes and a loan or signing announced to everyone's surpise at the latter stages, or as is more likely considering it's 19th Jan that we're not bringing in anyone.
Or we panic loan someone in the last week of January from the chinese league.
In all seriousness though, the fact we're not being linked to any players from reputable sources says we're not bringing in anyone.

I think the financial situation is a lot more dire than people realise and a season out of Europe all together next year certainly won't help matters either.
