Wilshere v Gerrard

who is the better midfielder?

2 years ago, this wouldn't have been debatable, Gerrard was brilliant back then. However Wilshere hadn't began to start for Arsenal.

I watched Gerrard close in your draw with Utd and although he done some good things, there is no doubt that Wilshere is now England and the Premierships number 1 midfielder.

The only thing Gerrard is probably better than Jack at is taking free-kicks. Besides this, Wilshere is head and shoulders above him.

Wilshere is flying the flag for England, and he confirmed his world-class status in the Champions league when he dominated Xavi and Iniesta in our 2-1 win.

This is something Gerrard has never done, whenever he comes up against world-class midfielders, he crumbles. I even remember Essien having him in his back pocket. Whereas Wilshere has managed to outclass world-class players and he has years to go until he peaks.

Gerrard has been a good servant for Liverpool and English football in general, however it's best he retires at the end of the season as from next year onwards Wilshere will take the league by storm as Arsenal do the double.

The OP is obviously a wum, but dubbed seems to truly believe that Wilshere is as great as the tabloids suggest.

What has Wikshre actually done in apart from arousing a few journalists.

He looks like a talented player. Ramsey, although less hyped by the media because he is Welsh, was similarly lauded, but from what I have seen has been bobbins this season.

What has Wilshere actually done to deserve these plaudits? I could list Gerrard's but there are too many of them.

Wilshere is easily better than him.
Dribbling, passing, first touch & control, not forgetting he's more creative and skillful.

The only thing Gerrard has over him is long shots. The harsh truth.

Not true at all. It's just your opinion. Wilshere will become a great player, and Arsenal really need one or two, but he has nothing on Gerrard yet.

When Wilshere single-handedly wins games for Arsenal, like Gerrard has for us, can lead the team, tackle, pass, shoot as consistently as Gerrard can, then you may have a point.

Until then all he has over him is youth and a nice flamboyant touch or two that you Arsenal fans are suckers for, thinking that all of a sudden makes a player World Class.

Arsenal are a club in decline now. The arguments between us and the gooners are probably academic as Wilshere and RVP will be moving on soon.

Fair point. I've already conceded that Wilshere has some way to go before matching Gerrard's experience. But I mean referring to his ability on the ball. Which I maintain is better than Gerrard's.

Each man to his own though.

Ability on the ball is nothing if he can't use it to produce something. It's not a freestyle football show, it's a professional football goalscoring competition.

Bar close control Gerrard has everything over him.

You're absolutely right. Gerrard never contributes in the big games for Liverpool

I made a nice slow cooked rabbit in mustard and white wine sauce for Sunday lunch.
I then slow cooked some slices of duck in the leftover sauce which will serve me as two tasty lunches today and tomorrow.
But which is better in a mustard and white wine sauce?
Rabbit ot Duck?
