those who still thinks our CM is fine

We need to end playing 4-4-2. Could get away with just two in the middle of the park in the days of Scholes and Keane but not anymore. Should have learnt from Barca. Too hard being a man down in centre of the park against the top teams. Fair play to city. Played well and punished naive defending in the last 5 mins, when our legs were shot.

Seriously, Carrick V Basel, Anderson with his constant hollywood passes (as seen by the attempted outside of his foot pass and attempted through ball to thin air pass plus much more) and Fletcher joining in, all three players concede possession to a point where only a blind man would say other wise, and allow the opposing Midfield to run through ours as if we weren't there.

I said the latter about Carrick after the Basel game, yet people on here said he was our best player/had a good game

Simple solution.

Sell carrick and fletch as they are both cack.

Bring in 3 or so top class cms.

Not difficult.

What I'm saying is, Fletcher is not the same player he was 2 seasons ago.
Carrick was our best Midfield player in the 2006/2007 season, he was class, but has been in decline ever since.
Anderson has had almost 3 and a half years here, 3.5 years, yet he has never shown consistency. He occasionally shows glimpses of what he can be (world class) but most of the time he attempts the most ridiculous passes ever. No consistency from Anderson, can anyone argue that? If he can't show it after 4 years, then for a club like Manchester United he has had his chance and should be moved on elsewhere.

All three players can be good on their day, but being good 'on their day' is not enough for a Club like United.
You need to be the best in the PL every game. All three are simply not consistent enough.

Cleverly needs to be given a chance, and I pray that he is when he returns to fitness. We also need to sign a world class CM in the summer to play alongside him.

The same midfield won the league last season. FA Cup semi-final. And lost Champs league final to arguably(very arguably) the best team ever.

Having possession doesn't make your midfield good

Chelsea dominated possession in most matches last season but our midfield was dreadful

What's all this about having more possession? Since when does that mean anything, Arsenal have more possession almost all the time, it doesn't make our midfield special. Fletcher and Anderson were devoid of any ideas in the first half, it was pass pass pass sideways, intercepted pass, Citeh counter attack. I sadly did not see the 2nd half but the scoreline would suggest they didn't really get any better in the 2nd half.

Anderson palyed well in the first half, which was the statement I was replying to. The City midfield were second best to ours up until Evans got sent off.
