Billy Davies Unemployable???

I'm a new member to the ja606 message board, although I have read with interest many articles for years on 606 and now ja606. As it's my first article I hope that this subject will raise debate!!

The question I want to throw out to mainly Derby and Forest fans (maybe PNE as well) do you think that BD is now unemployable?

Although he has shown a great deal of pedigree in bringing the best out of teams in the Championship (I think that's his level TBH and his results in this league prove this) he is a loose canon when it comes to dealing with board room matters. I'm not suggesting any manager rolls over and has his tummy tickled by the powers that be but in BD's case he does seem to have the knack of totally p*ss*ng people off.

Not only this when the BD circus rolls out of town he appears to leave a trail of destruction in his wake with players demotivated and board directors and owners foaming at the mouth.

If you were a prospective owner or director at a CC club would you take the BD risk or would you steer well away?

I wouldn't say "unemployable". We're only 4 or 5 months away from panto season.

Billy is an expert at deflecting the blame. It is never his fault for selecting the wrong players, or using the wrong tactics, there seemingly always is a problem with lack of investment at board level.

I don't think he is "unemployable", as many clubs would kill for Forest's or Derby's record in the Championship under Billy's control, I just think that he has little chance of securing a long term role at any club (but in the current climate, does anyone?).

Piccolo he's behind you!!!!

Morten - I agree he definitely has the skills in this league but what chairman or director would touch him knowing of his tempestuous nature?

I know he has been linked with Birmingham City but can you imagine how he'd get along with Carson Yeung & co

Davies' form of ranting and having strained relations with the board / Chairmen, will not tempt many clubs to secure his services.
I've not particularly got a problem with Billy, but he's his own worst enemy.

No Billy is proven at this level most teams in this division would proably give him a job.

Funny he did not use these excuses at PNE and it was only when at Derby when the board, for the task at hand, did not really support him did he start with the public dummy spitting.

Also look at transfers @Forest over the last term and to a certain degree he has a point.

Billys problem is he says what he thinks when he should'nt in public <wink>

If a club wants to spend, spend and spend some more, then billy is the man. Especially if you only want to buy those who can't rise to the next level.

He did complain about money at PNE.

He wasn't given enough to have a fair crack at keeping us in the premiership, but if you'd given him £10 million and he'd spent it on Earnshaw, Davis, Teale and Todd would you trust him enough to hand over any more?

It's been interesting to note the failure of Forest's youth system under Davies. The exact same thing happened here. All his efforts are geared towards immediate success and the long term stability of the club can go whistle as far as he's concerned bacause he knows he'll have moved on by then. He's a calculating and selfish little man, so perfectly suited to modern football management. I actually think Forest handled him pretty well. If kept on a short leash the amount of long term damage he can do is minimised and the club reaps the benefits of his excellent motivational skills in the short term.
