Pointless football management scenario.....

Say by some quirk of fate SK got stuck down a manhole this weekend while playing hide and seek and we managed to stay up this season.....say one of the teams that took our spot in relegation was Wigan....would anyone take Roberto Matinez???

Not 100% sure myself really but think he is a good manager and seems to have the Wigan side 100% behind him (maybe with the exception of Nzogbia - but he has always had some attitude problems), he plays decent enough football with a squad of players who are, respectfully, worse than ours. I like the guy, talks sense and has done a good job with a Wigan team who have been teetering on the edge of relegation for a few seasons.

I am not sure why I had this thought but am surprised he does not get linked with other jobs......just a thought...

Probably not.

Because he's not very good.

I may be being harsh, it would be good to see the likes of him given the chance at say Villa or Everton. He just strikes me of another who talks of principles and opportunity. Whatever happened yo the old butters who'd proudly declare "if the opposition praise us then either they or we didn't care enough, I set out my team to win not to make friends".

As a fan I don't give a glittered topped poo how the ball hits the net so long as it's more times than the oppo manage. Start faffing about when we're 5 up!

Quite feasible that Kean could get stuck in Venky's manhole? However Rovers staying up is stretching it a bit too far!

You must be a well weathered cynical football fan Pie because football has moved on. Gone are the days of teams playing Sam Allardyce football and being happy with scraping wins by laws of average attacking 'if you pump the ball into the box enough times it will get in the net at some point'.

Now with teams like Barcelona showing you can play attractive football, easy on the eye and be the best team in the world. As in every walk of life things change and move on and its down to people to adapt to it.

Kean is showing that playing "attractive football" does not equate to winning but that is down to the ineptitude of the bloke not his philosophy on football. Imagine how boring the premier league would be if all teams lived by your mentality!?!?! It would not be the unexpected, entertaining, best league in the world that it is!

That is why I would like a manager who plays good football and yes I was one of those who wanted BFS out because probably I am off the new generation of football fan that actually wants to be entertained when I spend a lot of money going to a game......

Maybe Martinez is not the man for the job but is of the mould that I would like in charge of my club...

rant over

It would also be nice if we won a game the old fashioned way like say avoid new tactics just put the ball in the opposite goal more times than your opponent! Some people may not like Big sam or his tactics but he never made us lose almost every game,if we have more than 10 points by New years day then it will be a godsend.

Took a dive, where are you spending lots of money? We are the cheapest team in the top two divisions!

Comparing us to Barca is frankly laughable!

Maybe my philosophy is a bit old hat, trouble is we haven't the talent to match teams for skill so why not match them for effort or try and out run them, knock them out of their stride! Us, Wigan, Bolton, Blackpool, West Ham and dingoes before us - all talked of sticking to footballing principles.

I tell you one thing, the standard of football won't be better in the Championship next year!

By no means am I comparing us to Barcelona but showing them as the point that all football teams aspire to be like.... saying that most football fans want to see good, entertaining football!!

I more than anyone would take a few scrappy wins at this stage but fan pressure speaks volumes and if that is all you get… they call for changes (BFS getting sacked)

I was merely pointing out that it is there has been shift in expectations of the average football fan. Our position in the league makes us doubt the style and approach but as I said in the previous post this could just be down to the numpty in charge. As a supporter of the club we want safety first and then “good” football I agree with you but as the BFS scenario proves no football fan is happy with grinding out mediocre mid table performances on a yearly basis.

I hope that we get someone in to run the team (and club to certain extent) who can see our strengths and play to them. BFS did to a certain extent but how can you be using all our strengths when Hoillet did not get a look in…. from reserve to best player at the club in one swift manager change!!

Would love to see us play defensive counter attacking football….we don’t have ball players who can keep the ball and work openings that we are trying….we should have a solid defence and use the speed, flair players. Solid defensive unit with Yak up top and Hoillet Olsson on either side… enough to keep us up???

Am sick of this “cr@p we are losing lets stick on all the attacking players we have on the bench!” kitchen sink time!!!
