Earnie to Palace

Earnie is off to Palace then.

Good luck to him. He has served us well and I don't begrudge him moving down there.

Let's hope he doesn't score against us and, if he does, I expect he will respect us and not celebrate

I wonder who we are signing in his place. The Ap have a lot of work to do this season.

Crystal Palace are laying down their marker for an assault on promotion to the Premier League by swooping for Nottingham Forest and Wales striker Robert Earnshaw.

The pocket rocket, standing just 5ft 6ins, is obviously not in new Forest boss Steve McClaren's plans and Palace manager Dougie Freedman met with Earnshaw yesterday.

The Welsh front man, who notched 11 goals last season, has already attracted fees of £12.65million in his moves from Cardiff to West Brom, Derby, Norwich and Forest - but is now a free agent after three years at the City Ground. Earnshaw has 198 career goals in all competitions.

Freedman sees him as the perfect foil for Glenn Murray, who was Brighton's leading scorer last season.

Earnshaw was used as a shock sub towards the end of last season by Forest and his play-off late goal so nearly got them back in with a semi-final chance against Swansea, who went on to be promoted.

Earnshaw played under Palace No.2 Lennie Lawrence and Freedman, as a striker himself, didn't have to go far to check the credentials.

Standard Sport can also reveal that Palace are interested in Blackpool's former QPR central defender Iain Evatt, especially if Anthony Gardner decides to sign for West Ham or Birmingham, rather than take up where he left off when on loan with the Eagles from Hull City last season.

Darren Ambrose, also as revealed by Standard Sports weeks ago, is a target for promoted QPR as boss Neil Warnock looks to make up for the winger turning him down last season.

how are palace going to afford his wages, there in financial trouble aren't they??

He was being linked to Brum before, but it's all kicking off there with players/managers/staff leaving so that can’t be a straight forward decision. Mark A said that we are a long way off matching Earnie’s wage demands, (less so with the Mouse) but surely Palace can’t afford him and surely he’d be swapping a potential relegation battle with a potential play-off chase – seems unlikely to me. MA said best to wait until Steve M has sat down with everyone, he might say keep Earnie at all costs – who knows.

Palace are my dark horses for next season personally, and I could see why he'd go there, but I'd rather he'd stick here on reduced wages, as a squad player.
