What's Going to Happen to Our Other Players

So new manager = fresh start and all..

Does anyone reckon Waghorn will make a return now or stay and join Hull?

What about Tunchev?

Will Howard and Dyer get more of a chance?

Which players should be worried about losing their place in the team?

I noticed that Tunch hasn't figured for Palace for a few weeks now. First relegated to the bench, now not even that. Don't know if that means he's fallen out of favour, lost form or, God forbid, injured again.

Anyone know?

But would a new manager appreciate his Bambaisms the way Sven did? Or would a new manager insist he play things safer, thus stifling his game in a similar way to asking Mills and St. Ledger to play passing football?

I don’t really understand the questioning of Bamba, particularly from the likes of Alan Young. For me he has everything a CB should have: heading ability, pace, power and no little footballing ability.
Ok, occasionally he thinks he’s a centre forward and gets himself out of position, but, for me, the pros far outweigh the cons – unless I’m watching a different game.

Dunge, you may well have a point, but how much it would stifle him I don't know. TBF to Sol, he's never actually been punished (as in conceding a goal or a penalty) through overplaying it.

His calmness on the ball and willingness to play it out is in fact so often a plus. I hope the manager will see it this way, though there'd be nothing wrong with having a word in his ear and telling him that sometimes, it's just best to get it clear.

Emilio - I agree, and I'm all for the way he plays. It's rare to see a centre back who's that exciting to watch and I too can't remember many if any times when his Bambaisms have got us into trouble as opposed to lots of times when they've got us out of trouble or launched an attack.

But given that they scare the bejesus out of many fans, they're bound to do the same to several prospective managers; my fear would be that he'd go downhill as a result.

Any manager who feels uneasy about him needs to watch his performance against real madrid... he was an absolute rock that game.

I quite like our CB partnership with Matt 'Hoof Ball' Mills and Sol 'Wish I was Messi' Bamba, we get the best of both worlds. If we had another Matt Mills our game would be very boring and we would definately be needing Dyer in the team to go and fetch the long balls.

Sorry but don't agree guys.

I remember hearing one of MON's centre-backs (either Walshie or Matt Elliott) describing Martin's coaching tips at a meet the players gig. They were basically "if the ball is down their end...put it in (the net) If it is down our end, put it in row Z !"
There are many of the names in the frame who will not accept a CB who thinks he has time to play.

I could easily see Sven sneaking back for Wellens or Konchesky. If it was Blackburn, they lack the former's bite in midfield, and Sven has always rated Konchesky - as do I, come to that. Against Millwall he seemed to take every corner and nearly every free kick, overlapped well all afternoon, and nearly took the head off a Millwall defender with a fabulous shot bound for the top corner.

What would worry me most would be Sven coming back for Schmeichel, though.

The first player to go with Sven (not sure who this guy even was)

Schemeichel and Vassell are two of our players who Sven has a history of signing so they would be two I would be concerned about.

Bamba is a very good centre-back and the fact he's also got technical ability is a very good bonus and as Emilio said it hasn't cost him so far. It could also be argued that he asked his players to play to their strengths and if he sees that he has got someone like Bamba who is very good at playing the ball out from the back, I doubt he's going to ask to hoof it into row Z every time because they aren't his strengths.

But I'm sure the manager (whoever it may be) will come in and judge the players from scratch and tell them that they all have a chance now to stake their claim and give a good first impression and it's up to them to take it. If players like Vassell perform well in training, then I'm sure they'll be picked and if they don't, they won't. It's as simple as that and it is how any football team should work.
