fergie needs to stop messing around with the defence lineup, granted injuries hasnt helped but he now needs to pick a back 4 and stick with it, chopping and changing the defence isnt helping, we need the defence to gel
remember when it was just rafael, rio, vidic, evra for most games
i used to think smalling on the right was the best option but fabio/rafael are our right backs and smalling is better suited to central defence
there isnt a thing fergie can do with the midfield atm but at least he should sort out the defence
consistency in defence

go on lads, tell Fergie how to do it properly.
===============================
Well he doesnt get everything right, and seeing as we are shipping goals left right and centre, something needs doing.

There are lots of reasons why United back 4 has chopped and changed this season. Major injuries and 2 new young players knocking at the door. Not because Fergie is clueless
Also problems in CM have put a lot of pressure on the back 4. This is well discussed on this board. Although the OP is right in that Fergie cant do much about it atm regarding new players, the likes of Fletcher and Anderson could make things better by performing to a level that they have done in the past. If I was to blame Fergie for anything for us shipping goals its preferring Fletcher to Carrick so far.

its nonsense.
You accept that United have had injuries in the back four but you still describe Fergie's efforts for trying to rectify it (by playing other players from the squad instead of the injured players) as messing around. What do you think he should have done instead?
I'm sure when everybody is fit you will see more consistency in that department.

"go on lads, tell Fergie how to do it properly."
And only 4 posts in the usual suspects thwarting any debate on the matter with the usual Fergie knows best carp.
The OP has made a very valid point, and like we argued for some time the other day, IMO, it was indeed this lack of continuity that cost us the game against City.
Fergie is adamant on tinkering, and as a result dropped one of our best performing players, for one of our worst. As a result, this player got sent of and lost us the game.
Fergie is swapping our goal keepers like a man possessed, so I have little hope we will see any stability else where in the squad.
But what do I know....
