The True Facts

Barnsley F.C. along with some contributors on 606 continue to claim that Category A. prices do not reduce attendances, also that reducing charges does not increase attendances. In a previous article davedrew commented that my figures were speculative and claimed that most of BFC's initiatives had raised neither attendances or revenue. I invited him to provide figures to back this up and as they have not been forthcoming I have produced these from the BFC website, deducting 7500 season ticket holders plus away support from the total attendance leaving numbers paying at the gate.

Match Category Paid at Gate

Southampton B 2,084
Burnley B 1,692
Watford C 1,686
Coventry B 1,497
Leicester A 1,256
Middlebro' B 1,221
Bristol C A 900

For some unknown reason the club have not revealed the away attendance of the last three home matches so I have based these on previous seasons. All but two of the remaining fixtures are Category A.

There does seem to be a downward trend on the stats

And your point is ? Mr U*****

Figures can be manipulated to be interpreted anyway you wish.
Take yesterdays game,
7,500 season ticket holders + this assumed 900 you said paid on gate = 8,400
As the attendance was 8,900 , this gives the visitors 500 followers, which was IMO actualy about 100, there is a 400 discrepancy in your totals, so add that to your pay on gate fans yesterday and it should fall in line with previous game attendance figures.
All this juggling around with figures proves nothing, and at the end of the day its none of our business.

Its been shown that lower prices will not increase the attendances, Id like to think it would but sorry, it dont.
For one reason or another football fans are dropping away from attending games, using a variety of reason's to suit their case, I e, no job, kid on way, £30 too much, Keith Hills players etc
If you are a supporter of you town's team, you make the efffort when you can, not bemoan them like many fans do on here.
Theres still money in the pot to booze cruise till the early hours "raaand taarn", or cough up £50 a ticket fo a Wembley trip.

One day the penny will drop with some townsfolk as to why the club is playing in a lower league.

Kinnell, spot on, this really is a waste of time but here goes. Mr U, first time on here since my last comments but thanks for the stats which I think demonstrate my point.
K is correct, Bristol brought less than 400, I didn't hear the exact figure but that's 1,000 plus x £25, assuming everyone is a member of the 1912 club, is £25,000, then add an extra £5 per head for every away fan, so £5000 makes a total of £30000. Watford- 1,686 x £16 is £26, 976. OK, we don't know how many are concessions but scale it down. I've done this using the rest of your stats and I can assure you that no strong trends are shown. Whichever way you care to present those stats you cannot demonstrate that the club would increase or even equal the revenue raised, I know I've tried. The evidence is not there and the reason I used the word speculative is because we cannot know what the effect of any iniative is until it's tried and when it's been tried so far it has neither increased revenue nor attendances by a significant amount.
I think many people have missed the point about category A, which is not about the quality of the opposition, it seems to be about what these teams charge our fans and so could described as an attempt by the club to indicate to other clubs that we will charge their fans the same as they charge ours, the 1912 club seems to be a way of doing this without charging our fans the same!
I think our fans who are upset about the cost of our football, and I can assure you that I'm one of them, would spend their time and effort better by joining fans representatives in trying to persuade the FA and The Championship clubs to stop the futile attempts to keep up with the Premiership and bring some sanity back to our game!

DRY, these figures are not in date order, there is a downward trend on last year's figures, no trend can be deduced yet from this years figures because we can't know the exact effect of 2 games in a week, previous results and bad weather; also only 2 games have been category A out of 7 so far, but rest asured I will keep an eye on the figures and if I see any evidence that the club is losing revenue as a result of the number of category A games, I will inform this board!

What sort of attendance do we expect for the visit of Hull City, given that this fixture last season only attracted 10.256, played on a Saturday 11 months ago.
I'll predict 9.950...

we got charged 32quid at bramhall lane this season for a cat a game....whereas rochdale a few weeks earlier paid a tenner less??
a total rip off! and we had a boycott of the game, but still took 2000....but if they had priced the game sensibly we would have taken double that amount...thus them making more money!!
its a way of ripping fans off! why should different sets of fans pay different prices?? especially in todays climate when we are all feeling the pinch!
your better off dropping the prices by say a fiver and letting kids in for a quid when accompanied by a paying adult...and having a couple of thousand on yer gates..and a better atmosthere!
its really cheap for the young fans at our club, and now we have a real family/community feel to the club!
todays youngsters are tomorrows full paying adults!

Kinnell, The away attendance on Saturday was announced on the PA as 400 and something. You guessed this figure at 100 so maybe you need an eye test or maybe a hearing check. You claim lower prices will not increase attendances but the cat.C Watford game (9733) had 1686 paying on the gate yet Bristol cat. A (8900) only had 900. Converted into cash revenue is £26.976 Watford £27.000 Bristol. davedrew, another who didn't hear the away attendance announced but did his own head count. In todays economic climate Rowing and Hill are doing a fine job of either brainwashing or alienating supporters.

Mr U for unknown

To quote from your article
"for some unknown reason the club have not revealed the away attendance for the last three home matches"

Oh yes I heard the away attendance figure but couldn't remember it, but you now have contradicted your self by saying the club didn't announce these figures, Oops..
All this figure qouting is meaning less unless you have all the facts and figures.
Here's one variable for you to adjust your figure with,
On Saturday I know of 2 senior citizens and 2 children who paid concesion rates at the turnstile, how many more instance's of that were there.
Until you have ALL the gate figures you haven't a point, so I repeat, Whats your point ?

You're wriggling, LOL.

Even 8900 less 400 and something doesn't make 8400 ie. 900 more than 7500, I thought the figure was 300 and something but you still don't show that lowering prices works, so again, what is your point?

And that is my final word on this topic!
