United fan here. Now, after news broke of an impending bid for Gibson from Sunderland many (fickle, ignorant) United fans gloated about how terrible he is, can't wait to get rid of him etc.
Now im not saying he will become a world class midfielder, far from it, but £5 million is a good deal for both sides. Gibson has never had a proper chance at United and always gets thrown in for random games, during which fans expect him to be magnificent, then cry when he's not. I'm sorry but if he is the 6th choice centre mid he won't play like a £30 million player during his one start every 2-3 months!
After we lost to Everton in the 2009 FA Cup semi final many United fans doubted if Welbeck would make it, after a poor performance (out of position). But after an extended run in a team there's no such doubts anymore. Ditto for Daniel Sturridge.
All im saying is, please don't be prejudiced before he even arrives, he could be a very good player and for a quarter of what you got for Henderson he's surely value for money.

Cheers for that mate: I'm sure that he will be an improvement on what we already have, and hopefully with an extended run of games will prove his worth..

Thats partly the problem, 'what you've seen' isn't that much. His sublime goal for Ireland against Wales, and the pass against Schalke for Valencia's first goal (which in my humble opinion was better than Iniesta's to Pedro in the previous nights Clasico) gives me hope that he can be a good player
