Stopped in his tracks...

Did anyone see Mr Beckford stop in his tracks when he was jogging off to be replaced by Steve Howard on Saturday because the 3,000 City fans cheered ?

Did Radio Leicester pick up on it in commentary at all ?

This will either wake him up a bit and make him TRY for the team a bit more or it will send him on his way to the 6 month sulk he had at Leeds when he wanted away.

I personally hope he sat on the bench and took inspiration from Howards display because he changed the whole attitude of the team and gave the 3,000 fans behind the goal a real belief we could get something.

I will be amazed if Howard doesn't make the starting 11 against Burnley on Tuesday tbh.....

Odds mean nothing buddy, they change ALOT during the course of the season, i think Beckford will come good when the team do, that is when a new manager comes in and changes everything, provding the right man comes in, will you go for a name or someone who knows the division? I'm a Leeds fan and have seen what Beckford can do, devastating when on form, but like you say, if he is on a sulk, usless.

Agreed, and yes it was mentioned on the radio.

The bloke's attitude is unacceptable, playing poorly is one thing, but Leicester fans won't stand for players who don't give their all. Hard work and graft is what this clubs built on, we don't have many lazy legends here.

Beckford can sit in the reserves until he grows up, we've got Schlupp with something to prove and Big Steve with the heart of a lion, I'd wager those 2 would be giving 100% and that's what we need, especially at this point.

Maybe he is a weak person and the pressure of expectation is getting to him

Beckford is such a disappointment. Howard was fantastic when he came on and never gives less than 100%. Is he still up to starting a game though; I'm not sure. I would like to see Schlupp given a go.

'Maybe he is a weak person and the pressure of expectation is getting to him'

I bet he is regretting his comment to Stringer now!

I agree that Howard will probably have more effect from the bench, but if a player continues to perform well of the bench, just from an ethical perspective they should earn a start.

I think this is the best time to do it with Howard, away to a team up north who are struggling somewhat. It also gives us the chance to rest Beckford, because surely he will start against Leeds.

There were a fair amount of boos as well - how exactly is that supposed to help (yes I know he was pants on Saturday)? Do we want to create another DJ Campbell situation?

As for big Steve - he must be given a place on the bench at least. I personally don't think he should start.

Beckford only came here for the Sven factor, so we shouldn't be too surprised that he is now showing a clear lack of passion and enthusiasm for Leicester (some fans predicted it would happen last week). He's probably a bit perplexed at what the hell he has let himself in for. Having said that, he clearly should be putting in more effort when you consider his wage packet, though I get the feeling he has always been a bit lazy.

The one thing I don't understand about lazy strikers is that they are shooting themselves in the foot.

They clearly want to score goals as that is what their game is all about, so I really don't understand why they wouldn't be motivated, irrelevant of the team or sagas off the pitch, to run around to try and get the ball or find space.

Can you imagine a midfielder not wanting to pass the ball or a defender not wanting to go and tackle.

"Do we want to create another DJ Campbell situation?"

--------

DJ Campbell created his own situation here. He had shown a complete lack of effort and a general disregard for the club long before I couldn't stand him. I remember when Beckford first arrived, some people (Alan Young included) seemed to think we'd got a really hard working striker. And that's part of the problem - everyone expects Beckford to be more than he is. Beckford's value is as a goalscorer in a team that creates chances for him. Apart from the occasional flash of inspriation, his touch has always been dodgy, at both Leeds and Everton. Essentially, what a new manager needs to tell him is to save his skills for the box, while playing the ball as simply and quickly as possible in the build-up of a move before getting forward quick to get on the end of something. Beckford is potentially very good at this style of play. He'll never be the greatest of team players and he's likely to get temperamental.

Whether he can ever truly be a "Leicester City approved player" - probably not. I dare say in a few years time we'll look back on (e.g.) Fryatt the person or Howard the person much fonder than we look back on Beckford the person, however he performs. But that's not to say that he can't do something for the club. Nor is he a lost cause yet - although they won't admit it, players like him often need clever psychological management to get the best out of them and so the next appointment will be critical for the Beckford/Leicester relationship.

Incidentally, I don't think the fans will have much to do with it. Players like Beckford look uninterested or play badly, then are astonished when the fans don't like it. A player with true mental strength would want to turn that relationship around, much like Kisnorbo did. If Beckford wants to become a Leicester legend then there's nothing stopping him other than himself. The same went for DJ Campbell, but instead he decided to disrespect the club that was funding him more and more as the years went by.

I think that Beckford needs too much attention and an arm round him a very complex character I'm afraid
