I keep hearing this rumour down under that South's have approached Tompkins re; 2013 season.
Can someone put some light on a few things please....
* When does Sams current contract run out.
* Can or could Sam play half/back No.7.
* Is there any word/rumour in England of such a move.
Personally I can't see how South's would fit Tompkins in under the cap, regardless of more money and a salary cap rise with the new T.V deal pending.
They would have to shed a couple of high profile players in order to fit Tomkins in, is the only way I can see it happening.
Cheers
Will Sam Tomkins leave Wigan..??

I'd rather see him play in the NRL than turn to Union

It's funny because an hour after I posted this article I checked out the Sydney Dialy Telegraph and there was an article on Tompkins and he is both keen & willing to listen to any NRL club after he completes his current contract with Wigan.........most of the time these things turn out to be a manager attempting to get a pay increase for both he and his client.
Is 2012 his last year of contract.....one would think Wigan would be keen to get this matter tidied up sooner rather then later to stop any speculation and up-set sponsors and supporters alike.

I there Souths.
There has been a lot of talk in the press the last few weeks that he is destined for Union (his brother Joel is supposed to be a certanty for Union, though nothing confirmed yet).
Your question can he play halfback, last season he seemed to play fullback ,halfback and dummy half all in the same game ( because he seemed to be the only creative player Wigan had in the backs).
The reasom I say this is because I thought that Finch was more a forward playmaker.
His contract is supposed to have another 3 to 4 years to run which is the same as his brothers, but everyone knows if a player shows that he is unhappy what can a club do.
There is an interesting article in tonights Manchester Evening News in which he makes a few comments about his future ambitions, I dont know how to post a link but if you just put in the newspaper heading like I have shown,go to the sports section and it comes up.

I think that money will decide in the end though, whether that's Union, NRL, Wigan or the Green Bay Packers.

I think if he ever does leave Wigan it will be for an NRL club. I would be surprised if the curent memebers of the England Squad who play for NRL clubs haven't said to him come and play in the NRL as you are certainly more than good eneough. Possibly after the 2013 world cup.

I would say very likely, money talks in a short career and he must be attracted to the sunshine of Aus and the challenge. If his brother goes to union it is ven more likely as he will not want to be on less than him.

Wigan Warriors star Joel Tomkins is set to join rugby union champions Saracens
Wigan Warriors are demanding a £250,000 compensation package from Saracens RU for the loss of Joel Tomkins.
Warriors owner and chairman Ian Lenagan is disappointed to be losing Tomkins who signed a new five year contract with Wigan 12 months ago.
Lenagan will now try to soften the blow by recouping cash to seek out a possible replacement.
Meanwhile, the great Billy Boston says Wigan would be ‘daft’ to even consider letting Joel’s younger brother Sam follow him into Rugby Union.
Sam has been widely acclaimed as the most talented player in both codes of rugby right now.
Interest from union is plentiful but Billy hopes this can be combated. He told MEN sport: “I have already said Sam is going to be the best player in the world – he is an entertainer.
“He is the finest talent to emerge for some time and he is needed in league because Wigan can build for the future around him. He is just so gifted.”
Tomkins further enhanced his reputation with four tries for England in the Four Nations Opener against Wales. All eyes will be on him at Wembley this weekend when he plays against Australia.
At least four top RU clubs have been linked with him – the link stems from Sam’s association with the Andrew Clarke management stable.
Clarke is now one of the most powerful agents within rugby circles. He also represents Chris Ashton and has been totally supportive of Sam and knows better than anyone what is on offer within rugby union these days.

didn't tomkins start out as half back before switching to full back? to me sam is our best player by a mile and going to a more competitive league will improve him as long he doesnt go to union, by the way anyone know how sam burgess is doing? and why he isnt in the england squad against wales?

Arfa # 10, Sam Burgess got injured (around round 12) and it was rumoured he would be making his come back game if South's managed to sneak into the semi-finals but he agitated his injury, and that in turn prevented his call-up to the England squad.
South's started training again last week and Sam is only on light duties until after x.mas....cheers.
