Stringer says;

StringerSport Ian Stringer
Seems a toss up between Lee Clark (questionable whether Keegan will accompany him as director of football) and Mark Hughes as #lcfc boss

Personally I would prefer Hughes. He has no Championship experience but he has proved himself to be a good manager at he top level. I think these skills are transferable, football is football after all...isn't it?

Clark could be the next best thing since sliced bread. But he could just as easily be useless. He has no Championship experience either and his experience is limited to one big club in League One. For me he is a risk.

What do you reckon? Is this tweet from Stringer evidence that things are moving on? Is there now a shortlist of two?

Can't wait until this is done and dusted and I hope our next manager's time at the club is measured in years and not months or weeks.

It's a tough one. I'd go for Clark, but it would be a big risk.

Big risk can often = big reward though!

Hughes would be a fairly safe bet but I'm not sure he's the right guy.

I think he has just looked at the betting odds and at the two clear favourites as we approach probably no more than 60 odd hours until the manager is announced, and he's put 2 and 2 together.

Hughes please. Proven at Prem level. Can't understand people wanting Clark over Hughes at all.

I'd like to see Lee Clark get the job.I think he would be the sort of manager that would get the players actually playing for the shirt.

People say it would be a risk, but are you not taking a risk with whoever you appoint, there's no guarentee the likes of Hughes,Davis ect, would be a success.

UP THE CITY

I don't think we'll get either of them.

I'm going to go out on a whim here and say Martin O'neill will be our next manager.

Don't know why Clarke is so short in price, cannot see it, maybe next time when O'Neill gets sacked next may

Clark for me, if this is really the choice, for the reasons advanced in other threads about Hughes' inexperience at this level, and ego. And preferably Clark sans Keegan.
But I'd still rather have either Jones or Davies.

Hughes for me. Used to dealing with quality players (which allegedly we have) and a big squad at Man City. If Clark came and did a good job, once Pardew started to falter he'd be straight back to Newcastle.

Pearson for me. Not Keegan, Hughes,or Clark,

No sign of Pardew faltering - Newcastle are now third!? Go figure.

I think the only possible reason for going for Lee Clark must be "third time lucky"!

Yes, he has a good record in Div 1 but we are failing to mention the fact that the two occasions he made the play-off finals - he lost. Also, he has had serious backing from the club and Huddersfield have been the big-spenders in that division. So perhaps not quite as exciting as he is made out to be.

As someone rightly pointed out on last night's moan-in, we should crawl over broken glass (apologise) and make Pearson our number one target if O'Neill is genuinely not interested. But if (as we all suspect) both turn us down, Billy Davies is the stand-out candidate.
