Yes, we lost 8-2, perhaps our worst defeat in the last 20+ years. But what if we were to meet them in the Carling Cup SF (if we beat City of course), in the CL knock-outs, in the FA Cup and of course the return game in the PL at home.
I would love us to beat them 1-0 in all these games. They could claim that they beat us 8-2 but we would make it 8-8 after these wins and that would be quite a mess-up of their season while setting our season up nicely.
I know this is unlikely but then again this pub is virtual.... Cheers!!!!
Us against United further this season

Defensively we can dream on if we're to get 1-0's against any club, let alone United.
Truth be told, we're not good enough, yet, to consistenly compete with the big boys. We'll get the odd great result, but 4th place is our target.

actually the Carling Cup semi has two legs so it'd be 8-8

I agree, I cannot see us winning 1-0 anywhere with our defense.
That leak needs to be plugged up before we can dream of ever beating Man Utd 1-0 and pretty much any other club too. Especially if we play as suicidal as last week.

Sadly have to agree with Serial. Yes, we should rightly be happy about a great result at the weekend, but it is only 3 points... so let's not let the odd result against a "big club" distort where we as fans believe our club to be at at the moment.
Also, you might want to reign-in what looks to be the makings of an obsession with Man U even if they did inflict our worst league defeat upon us since Loughborough in 1896.

Having said that, i am hopeful that Vermaelen and Kosc will form a formidable partnership in defence. However, we do have serious problems at both full-back positions.
Andre Santos is a good attacker, but absolutely pants at defending. Is he our long-term Left full-back, i shudder to think!
Djourou is not a right full-back. Most of the time he struggles with his main position at CB. Jenkinson is inexperienced and not ready for a long outing at that position.
Alex Song.....simply baffles me. He has everything in place to make a great defensive midfielder. But at key points, he just gets bored with the job asked of him and decides to bomb up-field. I don't know whether it's himself deciding to attack or instructions given by Wenger, but whatever it kills us at certain points in matches.

lex - hardly an obsession. If we do get the results what I am talking about that would mean we will be in the Carling Cup final, CL SF (at least since we can't meet United before the QF - same country rule), FA Cup 4th or 5th round and of course get the crucial 3 points in the PL you kindly reminded me about.

It's called indiscipline.
After his solid performance against Bolton last week, I'd be up for seeing Miquel get another chance at left back if Santos' form continues to be as erratic as it is at the moment.

Talking about the 8-2 becoming 8-8 and messing up Utds season,is showing obsessive tendencies towards Man Utd mate, there are a whole lot of teams out there to beat if you want to win anything, beating Man Utd half a dozen times may not be enough to win you a trophey.
The 8-2 thing is now history you had a bad day with half your team missing, get over it fella.
