I want Brian Laws!!....

.......

..........But seriously, Seeing Newcastle at the moment has made me think. Is current reputation everything when looking at a new manager?

Alan Pardew was a shock to most when appointed at Newcastle, especially their fans. He was a manager who at one time had a decent reputation, but that reputation was sliding away as his success rate seemed to slip. But how many of their fans are still unhappy now?

One name that keeps popping up for us Ian Dowie - yes I know you just cringed at the sight of his name! But he is a manager who took Crystal Palace from relegation positions in the champ at christmas time and got them promoted the same season, almost doing a job in the prem the following season! So do managers lose their touch that easily? Or is alot of their reputation affected by situations at clubs that they have little control over.

So with this in mind Im going to play devils advocate and throw a name at you all - Mickey Adams.

Please note, like most of my articles this is only hypothetical talk to try create some mind provoking debate. Youve probably already seen who my first choice is...

Is it Peter Taylor???

Seriously though, it's interesting what happening with Pardew, but he's very much the exception to the rule. Usually when proven failures come in, they fail again. The new and exciting ideas they once had just don't sound so new and exciting when they regurgitate them at yet another club. So a big, fat No to the likes of Dowie, Grant, Reid, McLaren and any other proven and consistent failure who might have thrown his hat into the ring.

I wouldnt put it past Pardew to still take the geordies down, great start for them but every year there are teams that come up quickly and shoot down as quick

I wouldn't regard the brolly man as a consistent failure. I'm not rooting for him to join us, mind – but you certainly can't blame The Incredible Shrinking Forest on him.

fatfox - Granted that he has had some recent(ish) success in the Netherlands, but he's quickly becoming a consistent failure who should have the word "AVOID" tattooed on his forhead.

I think you will find that Pardew started the revolution at Southampton and was sacked (left by mutual consent) because he fell out with the owners.

Has always been a good manager - Clarke is still un-proven.
