.............that already has the potential to finish in the top 6 ?
I beleive that he will have the ear of Pleat, which is a positive
I beleive that he has the reputation to attach the stellar signing King Billy wanted
I never wanted Bill to go, as I rate him as one of the best managers in the league, but it's happened, and at least the Board were quick and decisive with his replacement.
What are your thoughts ?
Also whwer are the rest of the original 606'ers
What will McClaren Bring to a squad...

Probably a better calibre of player and hopefully some experience. That's what I hope for anyway...
I prefer this 606 to the one on the Beeb, I don't miss Bobby and his cronies banging on about absolute drivel

league went to the german league thinking hes amazing

Wolfburg actually did worse after SM was sacked. He won with FC Twente that have NEVER won the title, forget what league it is that is a good result.
As for England, who has done well? Who well ever do well? Not with the media out to get whoever has the job. A cast your mind back, SM was hated by the media (and myself) from day one of his England job.
Chump Thyme btw xx

In regards to 'old 606's...I'm in agreement with Cathy on this.
Not that I'm anti homosexual or anything but all that sexual talk was just dull and boring.
99 comments on and takes the mick!
I miss 'stillbrighters' contributions. I think most have gone on Forestfreedom and Vital.

I was a fan of Billy, but i think the appointment of McClaren is extremely positive and ambitious.
It is a coup for this club, a former international manager, and worldwide respected coach, joining a championship team. It speaks volume for the ambition of our owners in securing premier league football.
For those proponents of the old regime, let's be fair. In BD's first season, he was handed a substantial budget in championship terms. How did he reciprocate? At the end of that season he invited certain clubs to approach him for any managerial vacancy. Complete lack of loyalty on his part, no matter how justified his grievances were.
Steve McClaren has a wealth of experience at the highest level. Has international contacts and reputation and a history of bringing through young talent. I personally couldn't be more excited about the future. With financial backing promised, we can go one step further.
I hope people give McClaren time and not jump on his back should he lose the first game. It will take time for Steve to stamp his identity on the team.
Funny to see some fester fans on here recently giving it large with the anti-mcclaren waffle. There gaffa was booted out of a job and replaced with Steve if i remember correctly!! And as far as direby go, in agent Nige we trust! Another relegation battle for them next term hahahaha.

I'm still not sure about him, maybe seeing how he dips into the market will change my mind.
My opinion at the moment is that Billy was the man to get us out of there but would probably have been out of his depth in the Prem, whereas Schteve may struggle in what is probably the most competitive league out there but would have steadied the ship in the Prem.
Come August Im sure I'll be filled with the usual blind optimism we all share as footie fans though

Returning to the OP's question: can Steve M cajoule players out of the top fours reserve sides? That's how Brendan Rodgers did it?

McLaren could use his relationship with SAF to get some of our reserve players. Perhaps Ryan Tunnicliffe and/or Paul Pogba

His reputation for nurturing young players can only be a good thing for us.
I reckon a lot of the top clubs would be happy to loan out players to him to help with their development, also if he is more involved with our academy players that could help us to attract promising youngsters to our academy ahead of our rivals.
As for signings, alot of players that have worked with him speak very highly of him, which will help.
Good knowledge of European players and good contacts is another plus.
If/when these new rules come in and we need to be operating within our income we need to be laying strong foundations down now to be ahead of the game.
The Derby board are on the ball and have been for a while, one of their board members got himself involved with the Football League in some capacity and they know that changes are afoot and want to be ahead of the game.
