Slater named International of the year

I can understand if there was some complaining in England over Billy Slater being crowned international player of the year when he hasn't always shown his best at this level, but those who are able to watch Billy in action during the NRL or state of origin series will fully understand why he has come up trumps.

There was heated debate down under over whom should win this award between Cameron Smith, Billy Slater & Benji Marshal.

I can't for the life of me see how Benji was even in consideration albeit he is a great attacking player but I feel you have to be the complete footballer in order to take out such an award and Benji just can't defend, he showed how poor he is in defence against Australia in the 1st round match where 2 tries may of been stopped had Benji put in a bigger effort......o.k the man running at him was a man made mountain in Williams but a quality international doesn't just hold his arms out as if it was a game of touch footy.

Cameron Smith or Sam Tompkins would of been my choice and given Sams ordinary game against the world 13 a couple of months back, Smith probably deserves it, but well done Billy Slater for taking out this award....

I look forward to the banter between now and Saturday when the Pommies & OZ clash even though I will have to get up at 2.30a.m to watch it........
