Hi all.....owls fan in pees.....
could i ask a question mainly to the older generation of tyke fans?
mid 80's i was taken to oakwell on a cold cold tuesday night.by my dad....to watch Barnsley play Liverpool.... Obviously back then it was a cup match, i remember dalglish and co playing... and banks wylde etc playing for barnsley....i think it was the first match ending in a draw and barnsley went to anfield for the replay....
it was a really foggy cold night, and my dad kept telling all his mates i was a wednesday fan...i was 6 or 7 at the time and shatting myself...
could anyone tell me what game it was and the attendance because it seemed packed to the rafters that night....
if i get a little bit of info i will try to find the stats etc online...
anyway..to all thanks for the effort....
up the owls.....
leeds eh?? 5-0 at home....oh dear
A quick question....

My dad says that match ranks amongst his favourite games, the draw at Anfield.

I've got the Anfield programme, dated January 12th 1982. Can't find the proggy for the replay (probably sold out) but I'll assume it was the following Tuesday, the 19th.
In the replay Colin Walker notched for Tarn. Souness, David Johnson and Dalglish for Liverpool.

I remember the night well at Anfied - the M62 was fog bound, we got there for half time, watched the Super Reds get the draw, then we came out to what was Liverpool hell !
Where the Away end road meets the Liverpool fans, some Scouser shouted "This is where it all happens then" and one of our party shouted, in a Barnsley accent, "Were wot appenz" and got lampooned to the ground - then we all ran as fast as we could towards the mini bus we went in. They clearly were not happy bunnies.
Return match was a good game as I recall, but the wrong result but in them days just having Liverpool back t'Well was good enough. Mind you the FA Cup exploits a few seasons back did beat that night.

One Reds fan got stanley knifed down the back after that game. Two slashes and a couple of hundred stitches.
Nasty, and them champions of Europe and us in the second division. Very poor.
"Stab-a-scouse" graffiti started to appear.
Anyway there was no trouble on the night and they won,as was expected of the best side in England.
Never liked them since.

Our bus parked at the side of Stanley Park. As we got off, one Einstein decided to sing...Sign on with hope in your heart...
I swear, it was like a western, it seemed like hundreds appeared from the trees and bushes...Luckily I could run in those days...

I was 14 then but remember it like it was yesterday, getting there in the 2nd half due to the fog like most Barnsley fans but my best memory from the night was after the game when we all stayed for what seemed ages and outsang the kop singing you'll never walk alone with our scarfs held high,no club had done it before and non have done it since not like we did, joyous memories. Then we all left and got our heads kicked in while the Merseyside coppers just stood and watched.Thats why I have never liked Liverpool since and never will.
