returning home?

the managerial merry go-round debate goes on and on
ive not posted any comments for several reasons ,after 40+ years ive seen this so many times managers have come in and i thought this is the man we need or who?

personally i would have put Sven up stairs until we got into the premier lge, why? because we have seen what his name alone does to attract decent players.
most of the names being banded around at the moment would be a major disappointment, some like Keane or dowie would have me burn my shirt and go into hiding!

the best idea ive seen so far has to be getting o,neil in till the end of the season, where he either takes us up and sees what the board will offer for targets next season 50-80 million for players and wages ? or walks away and the board find another manager

as for the "never go back" martin has not worked for the new board so wouldn't be going back..

Sven upstairs doing the glad handing and wielding his address would indeed have been good.

As for an O'Neil cameo? I really don't know. I think I'd prefer to have more stability than that would bring, if only the right man could be found. But who on earth is he? Not at all obvious.

as in, "address book".

not so much a cameo,as a trial for him to see how he gets on with the owner, with the option to walk if he aint happy

ive seen lots of manager who would be excellent to get us out of the championship ,but would be a liability in the premier lge and would probably be sacked after 6 weeks in the PL.

their are very few out their who have got a team promoted and stayed in the PL for 2/3 yrs after

i see the boards target as being
survive 12/13
top ten 13/14 and a cup
top six 14/15 and stay in that area
not a task for the faint hearted

Maybe the reason why the owners haven't brought a new manager in yet is because they are going all out to get MON.

It's interesting that the man himself is refusing to comment. He's quick enough to rule himself out of jobs that he isn't interested in. If there was nothing in it, I'm sure O'Neill would have said so by now.

If the owners do pull this off, even if it's an initial short term deal until the end of the season, they will have got a real result.

Fingers crossed...

It rather depends what form his refusal to comment is taking. If he is saying "I have no comment to make regarding the Leicester job at this precise moment," fair enough, you might easily read that as the same as 'delicate negotiations are under way – I'll talk to you later'.

My guess, though, is that what the BBC is calling a refusal to comment was in reality expressed as "For goodness sake, Stringer, I'm tired of your silly speculation – now go and shove your head up a dead bear's bum." Which I would not read the same way at all.

Why not just say he won't be applying for the Leicester job though, even if it just to put the fan's minds at rest?

Good suggestions Dublin.

Sven's "pulling powers" (ooh errr missus) cannot be dismissed and would have helped us when looking to make additions on the playing side.

Whilst I can't see Martin returning on a full-time basis, the logic to a shorter deal would make sense.

If he failed, he could walk away and everyone would say he hadn't been given long enough. If he succeeded, then it would only add to his stock.

We can but dream !
