Superlatives

First of all, congrats on Celtic's result last night. Three well taken goals (particularly Stokes' second) and a shot in the arm for Scottish fitba's reputation.

There seemed to be a bit more fight from the players, and truth be told, even as a bear i felt a bit of relief that a Scottish team had achieved a decent result in Europe.

Rennes had a lot of the ball but were a bit toothless up front, whereas your frontmen were clinical in comparison.

If I were to sum the performance up, the word professional springs to mind. The job was done and in light of recent form that's all Lennon could have asked for. The defence still looked extremely vulnerable, but then your midfield/attack had a bit more guile about it.

But then i read this morning Lennon and Stokes describing the performance as "outstanding."

It seems to me that, with Lennon in particular, it's always one extreme or the other.

It's never just a good performance - it's either outstanding or terrible.

Do you Bhoys think this could explain Celtic's erratic form this season?

Are the players going into some games too confident/cocky after the superlatives are banded about?

Are they going into other games with the heads too down after Lenny comes out with the negative stuff?

Is it a case of confused.com.

Some of the bears seem a tad annoyed at Celtics triumph last night...
===================
Indeed.

Mentioning that they're sixth in their league(Although they're three points off third and six off second spot) and talking about how they're bottom of the group when Celtic, Udinese and Atletico put them there....Is kinda desperate.

if they are decent why are they bottom of the group?
-----

because the other teams in the group are athletico madrid and udinese two very good sides, and celtic managed to get 2 good results vs a decent french outfit, cant be that hard to get your head around?

Dos dados, Rennes are a very good pressing side. And, they are not too shabby defensively if you look at their league form more carefully.

They've only shipped five more goals than PSG( the league leaders) this season. And have conceded the same as the team in second spot.

Arsenal are sniffing about one of their defenders too.

And let's remind ourselves of the French internationalist who got owned by Forrest and Commons too.

Comparing our performance last night against what was a good defensive display from a Rangers team, who rode their luck on occasions, whilst having their first team squad to pick from is not applicable in this situation.

I though both Celtic and Rennes played well last night. They pushed us, tried to muscle us off the ball....But we showed great heart, concentration and we were clinical....And all that with plenty first team players injured.

Do you only dish out praise only when your team has been praised first?

That's kind of stingy of you.

Dos Dados
Even you know, but are not prepared to admit it, Ferguson did not want to beat Rangers last season. As he said once a bear always a bear. Ferguson tried a new tactic with no player going into their opponents penalty area especially if ball was in the area. Rangers had their perfect 6 men strung along their 18 yard line and 4 men 25 yards from their goal.

Ferguson..Setted his team up to stop Barca playing..Nani got man united poty last season,he never started the final...that was not Man united strongest 11 that played Rangers at Old traford..Vidic,Rafael,Evra,VDS,Nani,Anderson,Giggs,Scholes and Berbatov did not play or start the game.. Fergusons plan backfired

Actually, the OP has made a good point, it does tend to be kind of one extreme to another with Lenny but I honestly would put that performance last night in the 'outstanding' bracket for a few reasons.

1. A Scottish team beating any team in Europe, particulary a French one is probably regarded as an achevment nowadays.

2. The fact that he had half a dozen automatic first team regulars out.

3. The fact that the result was thoroughly merited.

4. Last but not least, the pressure on all at the club going into the match.

Have to say that I genuinely believe we might have got ourselves another cracking prospect in Adam Mathews. Between him and Izzy I cannot recall two cracking full backs in our team at once. Christ it was hard enough having one for years. Hail Hail
