It was a remote possibility that Sri Lanka could force an unlikely victory as pressure mounted on the final day of the final test of this intriguing 3 match series.
The rain (in the desert) looks like it has put paid to that notion.
So what of Lanka's chances then?
Depending on how many overs the rain reduces the day by, Lanka cannot leave Pakistan a chase of more than 3 runs per over otherwise they will just shut up shop and play for the draw.
237 isn't a big lead, but in say 80 overs, that gives Pakistan a sporting chance of a win and that is the only way Lanka can win this test match.
Batting on, even for 5 overs, will reduce the time to bowl at the Pakistanis by that amount plus 2 more overs for the innings change.
Declare now and give it a go.
Lanka's chance gone with the rain?

Randiv to Asad Shafiq, no run, huge appeal for caught behind. Taufel says no, and there's no UDRS. The slider again from round the stumps, once again Shafiq doesn't spot it and he's feathered it. They went up immediately. That was lucky.
PLEASE CAN WE USE UDRS

I dont see why umpire doesn't just go to 3rd umpire to see if that had a nick. You don't need hotspot or hawkeye to see on replay that Shafiq nicked that one. Why can't the ICC allow this move rather than leaving it on the field?
