...the down time of this site has killed it. Hopefully it is just because it is the close season and we have apparently done all our dealings in the transfer market already. Which is a shame because I think we need an adaptable defender (like Dillon) a winger and if Goodie goes, a striker. Russel might be our winger if there isn't going to be any more deals, but if Goodie goes I think Russel will take his spot and we get a new winger.
What is our current starting 11 if nothing else happens?
Pernis
Watson - Kenneth - Dillon - Dixon
Swanson - Robertson - Flood - Russel
Daly - Goodwillie
Subs:- Banks/Mentel, Severin, Rankin, Douglas, Dow
Is that our strongest team? Thoughts? Different line-up?
Looks like...

If goodie goes, Russell slots in with Douglas filling in at left wing - simples

Doesn't look to bad to be honest but if we get an injury to Daly or Russel we are going to be in trouble.

'Could be a problem with Swanson - still struggling with injury apparently

I think by December we wont have a full subs bench, especially with all the extra games when we qualify for the group stages of the Europa league.

I love the optimism Grumble. I think that is our strongest 11, however we all know Houstie will fit Seve in somewhere and this will possibly make us weaker.

Also optimistic to suggest we'll be playing 4-4-2, Houston showed last season that he much prefers trying to sit back and defend with 4-5-1.
Would like to see:
Pernis
Watson Dillon Kenneth Dixon
Swanson Flood Robertson Mackay-Steven?
Goodie Russell
Although I think most likely Houston will:
Stick our best centre-back at right-back
Play Severin in his place (although I do rate him, he's no Dillon)
Play Rankin no matter what
Play Russell on the wing where he's wasted
Play Daly no matter what
So all in all, I'm optimistic for the season ahead... *ahem*

Good to see you on the board Hobo, I see you bring your usual dose of Houstie loving. In all honesty I agree with your points. We must be 4-4-2 and give Goodie/Russell a partner. I do not want to see Russell stuck out on the wing in a 4-5-1. However I think Daly is effective when played up top with a partner and this is the way we should go.

Please not Dillon at CB next year. Bomb scare - ships a least a goal a game, and can't win a header against anyone over 5'4. Good man to have on bench as he can fill in at several positions.
Don't understand criticism of Severin. I thought he improved in every game at the end of last season. he will never have any pace, but with a proper season behind him, and a run without injuries i would hopeful of him and GK forming a decent partnership.

I thought Dillon was our best CB last season. Severin is a little slow and not great in the air. Saying that,I agree that he was improving at the end of the season. A better run in the team and I am sure he will be keeping GK in check, could be a good partnership...could be a disaster with no other options. Time will tell.

No Means No
I hope Dillon doesn't play right-back as he is terrible in that position. Everybody else thinks he should play at centre-half. I want another centre-half and then Dillon would be out of the team. Severin was getting better towards the end of the season? Did he not go to head the ball in the Killie game and it bounced over him. Quality centre-half, I think not.
