Hold ya horses. Put your knickers back on. Hear me out for a bit and then flan the living daylights out of me.
Now Iโm not belittling the achievements of Fergie. Heโs a great manager and has done great things for the English game, with an un-rivalled trophy count.
But isnโt this media love fest just going over the top a little? The media would have you believe that Fergie dragged United off the football of the 2nd division and onto world domination in a matter of a few seasons. It took them 7 seasons to win the league. Wenger did it in less then 18 months. It took them 13 years to get to there first CL final, whereby a stroke of shear luck, they stole it off Bayern. Not too mention the fortune of having a few good youth players, one of which was David Beckham, off whom they exploited the Asian markets and generated the vast sums of cash they now have to buy rubbish such as De Gea.
Fergie IS a great manager, that I have no doubt. But the greatest ever? I donโt think so. The likes of Capello, Lippi, Del Bosque, Hitzfeld and Wenger I would rate as better.
I welcome your opinions
Sir Fergie Overrated!

I think the great manager is one who has own several things with different teams/clubs. Fergie, has only handling man u for last 25 years..who knows what would have happened if he would have gone to Real, Barca, inter etc. ! may be managing national team ! So he is one of the greatest manager around but nothing exceptionally great as some people think.

Is winning the SPL with Aberdeen and the Cup winners cup, beating Real Madrid in the final, not an achievement then?

Ruiney. Very good point. I would argue he's achieved greater and more improbable things with Aberdeen then with united.

Sustained success is the hardest thing to acheive in football as far as i'm concerned and Sir Alex has done it to previously unseen levels.
Lets face it there have been threats to United's domestic dominance but Sir Alex has been able to fight them off.
Blackburn, Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea all had their spells where they looked the part but whatever they had United overcame.
I think Sir Alex is one of the greatest coaches ever on a similar level to some mentioned in the article and certainly above Wenger (the victim of his own imagination and inability to iron out the failings in his sides, particularly recently) who's name doesn't belong in this discussion IMO.

That does not even include the leagues and cups he won at Aberdeen.
He also managed Scotland for a short while. He is without doubt the best ever and I think most of the other managers would agree with that.
