Never mind that he was the greatest player that any of us ever saw. Does anyone on here remember how good his acting was on the adverts on the telly!! In the face of some stiff competition, he really was quite exceptional.

However, many feel that Garrincha was better than Pele. Especially in Brazil. Certainly a better dribbler than Messi.

It is hard to judge a player who played against amatuers and semi professionals in his league... yes he had a good world cup scoring record (for possibly the best team around) so does Gyan Asamoah and Miroslav Klose for what are not the top teams around (although Germany aren't bad)

I think he is a very good player but one of the worlds best ? no never. Its partially why I don't get why everyone went nuts over the Rooney comparison (he actually said they share similar attributes not ability) but personally I would pick a fair few modern day strikers over Pele...

Fair play for him scoring alot of goals and I think he was perhaps the best of his time, but how would he have been if he was playing in the premier league now?

Ronaldo & Messi could break his record if they carry on the way there going!!!

I am sure he would be a great player, and with modern training and the fitness levels they maintain these days he would be even better...

But I am unsure how he would compare with the likes of Rooney, RVP.... maybe even Aguero would be better strikers than him and Messi and Ronaldo would be a good bit better than him imo...

Maradonna was always the greatest for me, hand of god or not a damn fine little player!

He is the only one I would confidently put ahead of Messi and Ronaldo... for the moment anyway...
