The tax loophole has only recently been closed by legislation. I gather part of Rangers defence is that HMRC are trying to use recent legislation to retrospectively recover tax.

“Given we’re not in the Champions League or the Europa League that doesn’t look like good
business. So somewhere down the line we have to get real.

“We’re stuck in Scottish football with a finite income and we must live within our means. We’re not doing that at the moment, not even close, so there are painful times ahead regardless of the tax case.

“We have a s10m hole to fill in terms of operating the business. This is where we are heading s10m out every year. Obviously this is a serious issue and one of the structural issues we have to sort out.”

The Horses Mouth....

To my knowledge Rangers (despite having millions ring fenced by the courts) are still paying players wages. No signs of any cashflow problems.

Gazza...I think you'll find tax can be claimed back retrospectively within a certain timeframe...Rangers stopped using EBTs recently..I don't know if that means anything though...

Your defo right about retro tax, but it's the part about using 2010 legislation to claim tax relating back to the nineties that Rangers are defending. As I said this alleged loophole has only recently been closed by legislation.
