Devonshire & Euro Ranking

Saw your article earlier and just wanted to point out you are wrong.

Here are the current rankings.

http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/trank2012.html

As you can see currently Liverpool have 89.732 and you have 63.732.
You are therefore 26pts behind them.

Last year Porto only got 31.76pts. So if you get 31.76 this year for winning it your total would rise to 88.592 which is still behind them and you said you only needed to reach the quaters to pass them when infact you couldn't pass them even if you won it.

No need to thank me for correcting you.

If you click forward a year too the team in 17th already has 73pts.

"It was only a waste of time once it became clear people couldn't do basic matths and had no idea how the points are awarded."

To be fair, as pointed out, your original post was a bit confusing. Paxton's "simple maths" demonstrated the inaccuracy of your post....

"If Pool are on 89 and Spurs 63 then adding 31 to 63 makes 94? therefore passing 89."

Now when you explained the points allocation process you'd had time to digest, your post made some sense. So i think your smileys were uncalled for in some cases.

As for teams scoring more coefficient points by beating teams from higher ranked countries, is that correct?

Only to someone lacking a brain.
It is clear and coreect if read correctly.

======================

Yes.
At the END of all the uefa comps they calculate the national coefficient by how well a countries teams performed in their entirety and then award coefficient points accordingly. This takes in to account the coefficient of the teams beaten by each nations teams during the entirity of the competitions.

That national coefficient forms part of individual teams coefficient so yes it is correct.

I beg to differ but accept your right to your opinion. By the way, don't complain about insults and then post the above comment.

Did you clarify the points question for me yet?

Coefficient calculation
The coefficient is calculated by working out an average score: dividing the number of points obtained, by the total number of clubs representing an association in that season’s two club competitions. The resulting figure is then tallied with the results of the previous four seasons to calculate the coefficient. Where two associations have the same coefficient, the association with the higher coefficient in the most recent season is placed first.

These rankings will be updated after each round of UEFA club competition matches.

Reading through that, if you can be bothered, there's no reference to scoring more points for beating higher ranked teams. The points are awarded purely on results regardless of the ranking.

I wasn't aware the other article was closed to comments

The only reason I commented was because your maths didn't seem to make sense, and because it seemed like a personal attack.

spurgle5 :

The nation coefficient is added to each team from that nation.
This year the PL has a value of 1.9 .

RDBD,

I understand that ok mate. I was trying to clarify a point the OP made about scoring more coeff. points for beating teams from a higher ranked country. I think he's wrong in that points are awarded based on winning/drawing games and progression through the competition. I see no mention of the point he makes.
