Just read he's about to join West Ham for £1.5m!?!
Probably Newcastle's best player, and if he's available for that sort of money and even dropping to the Championship in the process, then you'd think us and Celtic would be in the market for him.
Wages are probably beyond our budget.
It's not another "What if so and so signed" article.
Will leave the scouting and signings to ally and the team!
Just wondering why there seems to be a few gems like these going about - established and top level players going for a knock down price, but we can never seem to unearth them nowadays...
We only seem to be on the wrong end of bargain buys!...
I'd say in the English market, he would be worth at least £10-15m, so it's a surprise to see him leave for so little.
We did well with Davis, and Celtic did not bad with Ledley too, but more often that not we're letting our players go for peanuts.
Hope to see us back in for these sort of players sometime soon.
Thoughts?
Should we just steer clear of the EPL market because of the wages?
Or is there still a bargain to be had down there?

Nolan is going back to Sam! Apparently 50K a week! The auld parachute payment and selling of Parker etc will fund it! AInt no crazy chairman like a recently relegated chairman!!

Ledley shows that if you time it right a fantastic bargain can be hunted,,, ...but Nolan for 1 and a half mil? Why are Celtic or Rangers not in there?? Wages ah suppose.

Got to be wages. Scary wot these teams in the champship who are EPL mainstays for the mostpart can pay. When Newcastle were there they were paying guys like Barton £60k p/w and so on, if reports down south are to be believed at least.
As already mentioned, parachute payments can bring u straight bak up if u dnt lose ur whole team by goin down in the 1st place!

Gazza348 makes you wonder what happened to the Carroll money?

Well apparently we're going to spend it, I won't hold my breath.

From what I have seen, Nolan would barely improve the Aberdeen midfield, never mind either of the old firm.
