You are the owners of an Internationally recognised enterprise. You have aspirations to access new markets and develope your brand overseas. You have the money available to throw at it.
You believe that a strategic partner in sport will be the best way to modernise, publicise and market your brand. And there is no better or higher profile sport than football for the media attention available.
You then search for a suitable football club to buy. One is available at comparitively cheap money, so you buy it. You then have the perfect promotional vehicle to begin raising brand awareness of your existing enterprise.
However and in order to gain maximum marketing and promotional benefit from your new financial investment, you must ensure the ongoing professional management and performance of your new enterprise and safeguard its existing income, market position and reputation in the market place.
You don't like the man inherited and currently in charge so you remove him immediately. You then need a suitable replacement, presumably an experienced, qualified, respected and at times inspirational leader to take your new initiatives forward and manage change, until such time as you better understand the new market-place you have entered.
You scour the world for the right man. Your representatives and advisors are working overtime. With big money at your disposal and the big plans taking shape, big names are muted for your consideration, reflecting the importance of the decision you must now make.
A critical decision that ALL your plans now firmly rest upon. You must not get this one wrong, as all else feeds off it.
What do you do?
