Carroll was looked at when he first broke into the Newcastle side but he wanted to wait for England. Pity as he would be a throw back to the Niall Quinn / Tony Cascarino days and suit Traps awful approach to football.

Let's hope Estonia don't suddenly become a Barcelona and pass ROI off the park and get a result. When I was managing Holland's private hedge fund I always told the lads the best way to beat the "home" nations is to show a bit of skill and they wet themselves.

My Friday-night 5-a-side team (mostly over 35) could by-pass the Irish midfield quite easily with little skill required.

Yes we are hard to beat but even when winning games we are awful to watch.

Of I'll be delighted if we get there but having seen how well this team has played when allowed to do so (see WC play off away to France as a prime example) it's really annoying to see them shackled the way they are.
