Below is an article showing how players wages have changed over the last 25 years. I thought some of you may be interested in it.

Spike,
I dont know how they can manage to live on those wages!
On a serious note what about the variables like the players who have to pack it in early because of injuries?
Getting used to those wages and then you get a new manager and you have to move on to a lower team meaning you have to sell up move the family which might be for a short period before moving on again.
The thought of being on a short contract and it ending in a month without a good prospect of renewing!
I was talking to Paul Walsh who visited our local boys club and he made the statement about how fickle the life of a footballer is "you can come in one day and the manager doesn't like your tea shirt and your out of the team"
I love the game but I am glad my kids followed a different career.

Interesting article Spike. It demonatrates that the £5k or so per week maximum that was our salary cap a year or 2 out isn't that off the mark, although it would be interesting to see a breakdown of how wages are distributed per club, e.g. highest and lowest paid at each club.
